Hello

I have been advised to have a sacrohysteropexy for my uterine prolapse - basically as mesh sling to hold it all up Sad
Am not at all keen on the mesh and wondered if there are any non mesh alternatives ? Don't want a hysterectomy . Was so confused and upset in gynae office forgot to ask if there are any alternatives - I know that they like the mesh because this lasts longer but I really don't want it ...

Hope someone can help.....

TIA

Mx

I can't help about the mesh, sorry.

I did have a repair almost 20 years back now without the mesh.
I have a friend who had the mesh type repair for a bladder prol aspe and it seemed to work well but then sh ehad a hysterectomy for other reasons.

The only reason I didn't have mesh was it was not available at the time.

Why are you woorried about having it? As far as I know it gives better results. i think there may be some issues with rejction of the mesh by your body but not sure- have you goggled?

Hi cabbage rose

Yes the rejection worries me and the possibility of erosion in the longterm - there are a lot of horror stories on the internet particularly in America.

Can I ask what op did you have carried out , was it a stithing of the ligaments? And (if you don't mind me asking ) how old were you when you had it done. I am 43.

I was 36 and had it done 2 years after DC2.

They did shortened the ligaments and also repaired the front and back walls, by removing excess tissue etc.

I was in hospital for 5 days and had to have a catheter for over a week at home as I could not wee due to bruising.

I think the prolapse was relatively minor- Grade 1 and he said it could have been left unitl i was older. had it done privately.

There is a big thread about rectocele and cystocele on health.

I have mesh in tne wall following a rectocele- is that similar to what they are proposing?

Hi Change

No, I think they are going to use a sling to hoik up the uterus - think the rectocele will be stitched back?
