hiya, my mum has suffered really badly for years, has tried every treatment, so i know how distressing it is. she has red welts on her head and crusts, that come off then crust over again.

but after 7 yrs or so she found a shampoo. i will ask her the name, its pretty pricey but its given her back her scalp and she has new hair growth. she lost quite alot.

she lives overseas so bare with me, i will call her tomorrow and post back here.

Watching with interest. I've had a minging scalp all my life, variously diagnosed as psoriasis / dermatitis etc. I have tried 1 million different treatments and shampoos. Nothing works and it itches so much it keeps me awake at night Sad

Watching this thread as my mum (65) is also a bad sufferer and despite having had it for over 40 years has never found anything that helps. She only puts her creams on to stop it cracking and weeping. Sun exposure helps but mainly to legs and arms, not sure about scalp.

My sympathies, it's so awful to watch it itching and hurting and bleeding...

Dovonex ointment or lotion? Ointment no use for all over scalp as it is like Vaseline in consistency....ask for lotion, may work better.....

My daughter had it. The consultant prescribed some shampoo or other that was completely useless. She used Neutrogena Cold Tar shampoo and her scalp has cleared up immeasurably. But it could be that she just outgrew it as puberty kicked in (she's 12).

I have it too, shit isn't it?

I don't find dovonex that helpful, I don't think it's strong enough. Lotions are easier to apply on the scalp than ointments as well. I can't remember what my GP prescribed last time, might have been betnovate lotion.

I don't tend to bother trying to treat mine anymore, unless it's really bad and I need to dye my hair soon. Everything I've tried only keeps it at bay for a few months and then it's back the same as it ever was, and the long-term effects of some of the steroid-based preparations worry me a bit.

Sorry, not at all helpful, but I do empathise.

I have scalp psorasis too. Started with it when I was about 13y. Behind my ears is worse as it cracks and bleeds. Then my hair line which is all white and scaly, and bumpy. Very very itchy.

I still have my hair done and have it highlighted too which isn;t too bad. My hairdressers know and always use sensitve shapoos and go easy ont hehead massages.

I have tred lots of ointments and creams but I hate them as they make my hair greasy and don't seem to have much affect on my scalp anyway.

I use TGel shampoo which keeps it under control generally in that it doesn't often et much worse. I tried Coal Tar but that didn't help me.

Try Nizoral shampoo.
I also used this as a face wash many years ago as dermatologist said I had dermatitis on my face. It worked a treat. Also it must have helped with psoriasis.
I now just use T gel maybe every other time if i think about it and have gone from someone who always dreaded going to the hairdresser to barely even having a problem.
If I ever find my psoriasis coming back it's because I haven't used the T gel for a while

I have it too, the ONLY thing I found that cured it was pregnancy! Not a flake or scab in sight for 9 wonderful months. Came back with a vengeance the month after though :(

I've tried not dying my hair and that makes no difference, so now I just do it. At least it looks nice so long as youre not REALLY close Grin
