Has anyone had a dodgy mole that turned out NOT to be cancer?

Really panicking as have a small mole that became itchy and is now rough..doesn't itch constantly, just every now and again..the itching usually co-incides with after i've been running but it's been rough for about a week now

Am going to call the doc on monday but have been googling and now assume the worst :(

don't google! The worse thing you can do.

You have done right in booking in with your gp. Fingers crossed its harmless.

BTW, im sure that a mole can be sinister and skin cancer BUT can be ok once removed.. Im pretty sure that one of the moles my mum had removed last year was skin cancer BUT upon removal of the mole she got the ok...?

I have had a mole removed, just after I had dd as I caught it with my bra strap. I was petrified that I was about to.... Sad

Keep positive x

Does it catch on your clothes?

I had a mole that went rough & itchy, it was purely due to my waistband rubbing it and the official advice was "pick it off" Grin

which I did! (But would never have dared without seeing the doc)

DH's friend just had a mole removed that was cancerous & the whole lot was removed safely in one minor op & no follow up treatment is required. Huge relief for him.

I've had both types.

An initial mole in my groin that was itchy was melanoma & was successfully removed & I'm still here to tell the story 16 years on!

Had another 7 or so removed since then that were itchy or looked suspect- none of which turned out to be anything to worry about at
all.

Yes see your GP, NO don't Google!
The chances are it is nothing to worry about & if it is, you will have acted quickly enough to get treatment, which thesedays is quick & effective in the early stages.

I have had 3 that were playing up (at different times)- itchy, rough, changing colour - and all 3 were harmless. My doctor asked if I wanted them removing for peace of mind, so I had all 3 removed.

Try not to worry...very very few are anything sinister and a trip to the doctors will ease your mind x

My Mum had one about 2 years ago. She had it removed and that was that, all fine now.
Good luck.

Kalypso · 05/02/2011 21:41

My Mum also had a malignant melanoma 21 years ago. Like the above poster's mum, she had it removed and has been fine ever since (although she still bloody never bothers using sunscreen, which drives me up the wall).

Stop googling, rein in your worrying if you can, and just see your GP.

Keep away from Dr. Google - I have learned my lesson about this. I had a mole on my scalp just after coming back from a holiday in a hot climate. Went to GP thinking he would say "oh just keep an eye on it" instead of which he said it was raised, mixed pigment, irregular border etc and sent me to rapid access clinic where you get appt in 2 weeks (suspicion of cancer) so I googled and decided it was definitely melanoma, but wasn't too freaked because it said if caught early skin cancer was curable in 99% of cases. Nonetheless anxious 9 days till saw consultant dermatologist who said it was a harmless wart and sprayed liquid nitrogen on it and said it would disappear in a couple of weeks which it did.

I have another similar one in my ear and GP has just referred me to a GP in the practice who is a skin specialist, and I am not worried at all, as it is so like the other one.

My sister had an itchy mole recently and went to GP and he froze it off in the surgery and sent it off for biopsy but it was fine - no problem. There are lots of things that are harmless so do stop worrying and get to the GP.

Had itchy, bleeding mole on my leg (most common place for skin cancer in woman) but it was nothing apparently. Strange. At times I get cross that it wasn't removed as its not attractive and in a ruddy awkward place, then I kick myself as it's better than the alternative. Blush
Good luck, sure you'll be fine

howmuchyousay · 06/02/2011 00:01

I had one exactly like that.

Turned out to be a funny kind of wart thing, not a mole at all.

Had it frozen off. Is fine now.

paddyclamp · 06/02/2011 14:45

Thanks for that everyone...this thing is only quite small, maybe 3 or 4mm tops..and yes it is possible that it catches...fingers crossed this one is ok
