You can give him Nurofen as well as Calpol. That will be better at bringing down a fever.

How old is he?

Calamine Lotion dabbed on the spots cools them immediately too. Chick Pox is rotten. My 2 had it at the same time. It was near impossible trying to stop an 8mth old scratching!

Sometimes.... in very rare cases CHicken Pox can cause Pneumonia. See below:

Complications of chickenpox are rare in children.

Occasionally, some adults with chickenpox go on to get pneumonia. This is quite rare and affects about 1 in 100 adults. Very rarely, an adult with chickenpox develops brain inflammation (swelling) called encephalitis.

You are more susceptible to catching infections such as chickenpox if you have a lowered immune system, because your body is less able to make antibodies to fight it off. Having a weakened immune system also means serious complications such as those mentioned above are more likely to develop. People with a weakened immune system include those with cancer, HIV, or AIDS, or people having steroid or chemotherapy treatment.

Lots of kids seem to develop a cough towards the end of the actual chicken pox bit. Our DD coughed herself sick on several occasions about two weeks after the first sign of spots, but we had been told that that might happen.....she was fine, by the way!
