Breathing problems, panic attacks?

Just lately I haven't been coping very well with some stuff I have got going on and I am having breathing problems. Are these panic attacks? Can anyone tell me what to do to help with my breathing and to try and stop problems before they start?

Have a look in that book you've got...CBT is really good for panic attacks Smile

It will be in the index probably.

I have not been well these last few days but this breathing thing is a separate thing and I do know what the trigger is.

I get what you are saying but it isn't something I can distract myself with as it is an on going situation.

Might seem like an odd suggestion if you already know what your triggers are,

but low pottasium levels make you very prone to anxiety & panic attacks, you might want to get your blood tested to see if thats the real cause, & bananas, good chocolate, low salt subsitutes & Spirulina are good sources of pottasium if you want to try & eat more

I know what my current triggers are for my problems but it isn't medical in so much as meds/food can fix it. It is an external issue that is on going.

I am still feeling sick and faint today Sad.

My Dad has been very ill with breathing problems, which is still on going. When in hospital the nurses always said, "Long, Slow deep breaths. ."

This will help calm you down. Take your time and try not to get panicky. (Easier said than done, i am sure)
See you GP to find out more. You need support and advice. It could be Asthma ??

maltesers · 03/02/2011 09:57

AAHH. . . . having read your last post it may not be Asthma.

Sounds like panic attacks due to external stress.

See GP asap.

I have asthma but it is very mild. I can go for months without needing my inhaler and then need it a few times a day for 3 days.

I have a doctor's appointment next Tuesday so will ask then.

It can be panic attacks. The first thing to do is NOT breathe un deeply - It just makes it worse. This is an article about breathing techniques for anxiety, it will be helpful to you:

Thank you. I think it is something I will continue to have so will read the link.

It does sound like a panic attack. I have had a couple of bad panic attacks. One was so bad a paramedic had to be called. I thought I was dying. Now I recognise the onset of an attack and have to calm myself down, reason with myself and try to distract myself. Hope this helps.

ImFab · 08/02/2011 17:42

I really hope I don't have too many more as they are not nice.
