Has anyone tried those teeth whitening booths in shopping centres?

I can't remember the name of the one I've seen in Milton Keynes. But it't the type where they paint the whitening agent on your teeth and you sit in a booth/cocoon and they shine ultra violet light on your teeth.

I'm trying to decide whether to use this method or go down the more conventional route of going to the dentist and having trays made to wear at home. I'm a bit worried about my sensitive gums though!

Try Colgate Whitestrips, you can buy them on ebay and they work wonders.

I've seen these mentioned a lot on here. Are they as effective as going to the dentist?

Basically I'm going to be getting my two front teeth re crowned and need to get my other teeth as white as poss first.

Just remember it's illegal in the UK for anyone who isn't a dentist, registered with the GDC and appropriately indemnified, to carryout the business of dentistry. These clinics get away with it because the GDC turn a blind eye but if something goes wrong (chemical burns and spontaneous pulp {inside of tooth} haemorrhage are two I have heard of)the clinic will be gone before your complaint has got a stamp on it and there will be no-one to pay for the damage to be recified.

Dentist is the best way forward

I was thinking about this but what puts me off is that I have a filling at the bottom of a frontish tooth. Presumably that would stay the same colour as my teeth were if I had them whitened and woiuld therefore stick out like a sore thumb?

Dentistnotheretobejudged · 02/02/2011 12:37

White fillings or crowns will not change colour. This is another reason your dentist would be a better choice.

speaking of dentists and milton keynes - anybody able to recommend a good one - I don't like the one I go to currently...

sorry to hijack your thread OP, just seemed too good an opportunity to pick a local brain or two!

whomovedmychocolate · 02/02/2011 22:21

I saw that booth when I went shopping there and though what kind of numpty wants to sit with assorted MiltonKeynites goggling while they get their teeth bleached by the girl with more make-up than qualifications Grin

And now I know Wink

Seriously though, I'd rather go to a proper dentist and know they have been trained. It's actually cheaper at some dentists too!

yogididabooboo · 02/02/2011 22:23

whomoved - that is exactly what i think every time i see some orange person sitting in a chair with a face like Grin

do they not realise how fucking stoopid they look?

whomovedmychocolate · 03/02/2011 09:31

I also laugh at 'brow bars' on the main concourse. No one needs to see that Grin

I was once having a facial at the local sixth form college. It was a lovely treat and only £5. The surroundings were quite basic and I could hear a lady chatting to her student in the next-door cubicle (not that you can't in most salons as well!) They got on to discussing Botox and whether they'd ever do it, and the student said jokingly that she'd take it as a module if they offered it as part of the BTec. The lady said, apparently quite seriously, 'oh, do you study it here? How much is it?'

I was lying there like this Shock trying to imagine circumstances in which I would allow a BTec student to inject my face with a neurological toxin.

I'm afraid I had a similar reaction to those shopping centre whitening booths.

whomoved!!! ;OP Grin

I could NEVER get my brows done in the middle of a packed shopping centre. Some women even sit there having they're chin and upper lip done in full view of passing shoppers.

Right dentist it is then. Ta all Smile

Can I just add that you don't have to be a dentist or registered with thr GDA to carry our teeth whitening. You do however have to be qualified and adequately insured and you can ask to see these credentials. Teeth whitening is a cosmetic treatment not dentistry which is why it is cheaper when done at a salon/spa, however, I agree that the Mall is not the best place to have this treatment carried out.
