I think Ds had this last year at a similar age.

He wasn't unwell with it tho, just had bright red cheeks for 3 weeks!

One thing to know is that it can be dangerous for pg ladies to be in contact with, a friend got it while pg and lost baby. But it's rare for adults to catch.

TragicallyHip · 31/01/2011 15:55

Really? Shit my sil lost her baby a few weeks after Ds caught it.

I really hope that wasn't the reason Sad

It is a virus, triggered by the human parvovirus, most common in under 5's/primary school age. Flu like symptoms(temperature, runny nose, aches, lack of energy), bright red cheeks (like teething or sunburn) which cna coem and go and a faint lacy rash on the body adn or limbs. Very contagious and can be dangerous to pg women who have not got immunity(although most will have encountered it already).

once the rash is out they are past the contagious stage so dont feel too bad

manamana · 31/01/2011 16:34

Sorry tragically, it is very rare for an adult to catch so don't feel bad. Just think people should be aware.

moragbellingham · 31/01/2011 17:11

My DC1 was diagnosed with it on the day I gave birth to DC2.
We didn't even realise she was ill until the rash completely covered her face and then her whole head and chest in the space of a few hours.
A GP would be able to spot it immediately, I think it's a very characteristic rash.

cremeeggs please dont take little one near pregnant mums as slapped cheek virus causes hydrops fatalis (miscarriage)
I am an unfortunate adult that caught it from a child and it has made me ver ill.
