natural treatment for verrucas

My dd goes to swimming lessons and now has a couple of verrucas, I've tried buying stuff to put on them but it hasn't worked and they're still there.

My neighbour was telling me about a plant that she used to buy from the graden store to treat her dd's verrucas but couldn't remember the name of it. she said you ripped open the leaves and smeared the sap onto the verruca and they went away.
Does anyone know what this plant could be? I've tried googling but haven't found it yet.

I've heard of banana skin being used to treat verrucas. Maybe because of the high potassium content in bananas?

mylifewithstrangers · 31/01/2011 11:36

Probably Aloe vera, that has sappy leaves you can put directly on skin conditions and cuts.

Besides the banana treatment you can try the duct tape method. Literally cover the verucca in a fresh strip of duct tape every day. Eventually it will curl up and die and pull off (I haven't tried it myself, but know lots who have)

Also verrucae can go very deep into the foot; they require a lot of work, filing the area down post each treatment and time to get rid of them fully. Banana skin can be useful to get rid of them but again it takes time.

Bana skin is brilliant. I had them as a kid and banana skin cleared them within a couple of weeks.

Do you know I heard of a treatment on Saturday for veruccas. Not for the faint hearted though.
I was asked if I could supply a pot of menstrual blood, I said I couldn't because I haven't seen a period for months now. The woman who I'd been speaking to for about 15 minutes said her DD had verrucas but she couldn't supply the blood, it had to be an unrelated person.
She went on to tell me that when she was a child, her mum got a sanitary towel from a neighbour and bound it to her foot overnight. When she peeled it off the next morning, the verrucas stuck to it.
Could be worth considering if the banana skin doesn't work [vom]

Shock at kreecher, was that in Belgium?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 31/01/2011 12:53

Yes, Anwerp. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. If DD had veruccas that bad and I thought it would help I would be prepared to try it with my blood. I wouldn't ask someone who was essentially a stranger.

oh Antwerp, that would never happen in LeuvenConfused

stillbobbysgirl · 31/01/2011 13:23

in my experience - banana skin made little or no difference, and duct tape worked in 3 days- just pulled them out painlessly

emmy56 · 02/02/2011 20:57

Or get them frozen at the GP surgery?

notskiving · 03/02/2011 15:56

I am currently treating a huge verucca on the ball of my foot - and no luck with ducttape or banana skins, or freezing or bazooka gel. What is working is Verrugon (online purchase via amazon) - it has 50% salycilic acid which is miles higher than other treatments, and i have been using it for about 3 weeks and my years old verucca is showing definite improvement!

BeckyMH · 03/02/2011 16:17

Thank you notskiving for the advice. I will try this product. Ive got a big b of a verruca on my right heel and all the cheese grating foot files and scholl impregnated plasters have not touched it! I am desperate.

shodatin · 03/02/2011 17:31

Have foun d same treatment - salycilic acid- works for warts, and crushed aspirin is cheaper than special lotion/cream.

Horton · 03/02/2011 19:30

Salicylic is almost certainly exactly what is in the special lotions and creams.

I am over the moon. I have been battling with a most stubborn verruca. Podologist shook her head and insisted once again I have it frozen. I went home feeling really down and decided to attack it. Up till then Iwas using Bazuka. It ended up twice its initial size. This was just 11 days ago. About a week ago I soaked my foot in salt and warm water. The veruca seemed soft and a little raised. Got a toothpick and gently picked the top layers and kept wiping with CareX hand gel and removing picked skin with sterilized tweezers. Did not hurt. Only picked top layers. Smothered veruca with baking soda and covered with duct tape. Needs more than one piece of tape as soda sort of puffs it up and it won't stick. Two days ago I noticed a black spot. Kept on smothering baking soda after wiping with gel, when dressing came off. This morning had a go with an emery board and wonder of wonders black spot and more skin came off leaving a healthy pink underneath. Will keep on with baking soda till the hole fills up with normal skin. Hope this helps others.

I'd tried everything - going to the chiropodist to have them frozen was horrific and didn't work and so I resolved to find a natural remedy which I think I might now have done. My friend sells products for 'Tropic' and I've been trying their Tamanu Healing Balm - it's a slow process but it's actually working. www.tropicskincare.co.uk/shop/sarahdacey/products/dynamic.html

Cotton wool pad soaked in apple cider vinegar* and taped down with duct tape

(*cures everything Grin )

I pulled my small one out in the bath. It took several attempts over a couple of weeks. I am not sure that was the right thing to do, but never had one since. It was annoying and I tend to pick at things Hmm
