Was going to namechange for this but can't be bothered, so hope no-one I know reads it!

Since giving birth to dc3 3 months ago I've been spotting blood from my back passage after having a poo. Not much at all, very red fresh blood. Could it be piles? I have no pain or discomfort and no experience of piles so don't know if that could be the cause. Not sure if I need to see gp or not as it's not really a problem, just a bit odd Confused.

It's probably piles.

ednurse · 28/01/2011 22:26

Is it only when you wipe or in the poo too?
Could be a small tear.

Piles. Go to the GP you get free prescriptions still - get some ointment - it will cure it and you won't have to worry about it again. Otherwise it can go on for years, and years, and years. And it is, quite frankly, a pain in the arse! Wink

sounds like piles but would see gp just for someone who is able to check properly and so but aside any doubts for you. Don't think you always have to have pain/discomfort if they are just there ie not big.

hmmSleep · 28/01/2011 22:34

Thank you, quick responses, think it is piles, was hoping they'd just go away on their own, damn!

Don't worry the doctor probably will not want to look at your bum. I went three times before anyone even asked if they'd them to have a look Wink. Get the meds right they do go. Proctosedyl is v good.

If it was a fissure (tear) you would have pain on elimination.

Can you feel them with your finger? If they are extruding the ointment will get rid of them very quickly - within days, if internal you may need the suppositories but again they will abate within a week with the right treatment.

Keep eating fruit, drinking lots of water to help keep your stools soft - that will help too but yes you do need to go to the GP.

Don't worry, 1 in 5 visits to the GP involves bums apparently.

Ha, thanks. Think I've been put off as I had to go to the hospital to get some tests done many years ago and ended up with 3 male doctors sticking fingers, cameras, tubes up there, not what you want as a rather awkward 20 year old, (well probably not want anybody particularly wants !) Can't feel anything so think must be internal, I'll make an appointment next week.

There should definitely be no photography on your first visit Grin

hoomach · 29/01/2011 09:21

All rectal bleeding should be seen by a doctor even though, as in your case, piles are the likely cause.
If you are worried about a male doc looking at you bottom ask for a female GP!
But do get it checked out.

hmmSleep · 29/01/2011 11:11

Thanks, I'm not actually worried about a male doctor, I think having 3 kids soon sorts out any embarrassment one might have had over such things Smile! I will make an appointment eventually .
