Very achey joints when I'm on my period

As the title says!
I have had achey joints from a young age, I think at 12 or so I was told they were growing pains so just got on with it. I'm now 31 and am only growing outwards so think it's probably not growing pains!
I think they only really ache just before, during and immediately after my period.
It's my knee, groin and arn joints and have more recently noticed the fronts of my thighs aching as well.
It's really quite painful - I'm not keen on any of the doctors at our surgery but feel like I should get it checked, if only to reassure DH.
A quick google has thrown up Lupus - any advances or experience?

I get that too. Everything hurts more around period time. I also feel extra extra tired and I have to force myself to do things like put the shopping away or empty the dishwasher. At non-period time these things are just boring but do not require so much effort.

I also had what a specialist said were growing pains when I was a child. I used to strain myself after every PE lesson, about three times per week and could never understand why people wanted to exercise as it always hurt afterwards. Even now if I carry a carrier bag around with me for the day while shopping with (let's say) a man's suit in it, I would have a strained arm the following day.

I was bendy as a child.

There was an interesting thread on this recently, will try to find..

pippop1 · 26/01/2011 23:41

Do you get this kind of thing too OP? I have a feeling it's all related to hormones.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 26/01/2011 23:43

Grr, can't find it, sorry

Curiousmama · 26/01/2011 23:46

I'm the same. I also get aches around my ribs. Hormones have a lot to answer for!

Yes Pip, sounds familiar tho not overly tired I wouldn't have said.
I think I may have hyper-mobile joints, my sister does so perhaps it's just that exacerbated by the hormones?
It's just got noticeably worse since having DS2. Age?!

My Dad had fybromyalgia. Do you mean my age? I'll be 49 v soon.

blondiep14 · 27/01/2011 20:00

no, no, I meant my age, as in perhaps it's worse or I notice it more as i get older

But you are so young!

Sometimes I take Ibuprophen in advance (rather than afterwards when it hurts) if I'm going to be doing something strenuous all day (e.g.lots of walking). I think that helps a bit.

blondiep14 · 28/01/2011 15:53

well, no baby but I take your point. I just meant perhaps I am less tolerant of pain?
Or notice it more because I am at home rather than chasing around the office (not literally, my job was never that fun!).
A bit of advance 'prufen taking might be the ticket. Once the pain sets in they don't seem to work much.

I too have the same, my feet and knee joints do ache generally anyway. I too had 'growing pains' when I was younger that my mum took me to the docs for. It's ironic actually that I had bad growing pains and am only 4' 11 lol.

My knees, feet and hips ache terrible for about 3-4 days before my period. I also get very tired and very cold , and dull headaches.

I went to docs last year about it, and she gave me a full blood check, as I am prone to aneamia (sp) but everything came back fine, and said it was a 'hormonal' thing Hmm.

I just know not to do anything too strenuous for the few days before hand., not an ideal solution but it's the only one I've got Grin
