Hi

My dad is early 60's, chronic alcoholic. Has gout and Type II diabetes controlled by insulin.

Was told today that he would have to have surgery but is sketchy on details.

Gave me some percentages 6, 25, 25 and 50 but can't tell me what they relate to/mean.

Anyone have any information on this? How serious an op is it for someone in his condition? Has been told it is high risk, that is all I know.

Thanks.

My dad has this surgery a few years ago. There is a 1% mortality rate even without any other problems. It is a longish surgery, about 5-6 hours with a lengthy recovery period. It was worth it for my dad because of the impressive final outcome. He looked and felt far better.
Sorry to be so gloomy. Why not try the British Heart Foundation for details?
