All joints click constantly when I move- help!

I have scoliosis which means I am more likely to have misaligned joints. My joints have clicked, although it sounds more like an awful snapping noise, since I was 8 or 9....it has gone on too long! I find it embarrassing to go on a run or to the gym as people begin to look around for what the cracking noise is (its my ankles). Jaw and wrists have started doing it recently, and really locking. Sorry if this is all a bit gory!

Does anyone have this or know anyone that does, or know any exercises, or treatment I could have to try and stop it? Please help, I'm at my wits end about it, physio being very un-sympathetic about it the other day when I went in for regular back appointment has tipped me over the edge!

Any advice?

My joints have always clicked a lot - particularly wrists, knees and ankles. I used to deliberately click my fingers, but learnt to stop that particular habit! My spine also clicks (tmi) if I clench my buttocks!!!!.... I have to say, it hasn't ever bothered me as it isn't painful, although it can be mildly uncomfortable if I feel my joint needs to pop/click but I'm stuck in a position where I can't straighten out or rotate said joint to get rid of the sensation.

I always assumed the clicking is connected with my hypermobility. Is your scoliosis connected with hypotonia (low muscle tone) or hypermobility? I know scoliosis is really quite common in people with connective tissue disorders. Anyway, whatever the cause, I would have thought the physio could have been more sympathetic, even if nothing can be done about it. I'm sure that improving the stability of your joints by controlled exercises to build up the right muscles around them should help reduce the amount they click, but I wouldn't claim to know for sure!

could you maybe try pilates to strengthen your core and help with posture?

I have clicky joints, ankles/wrists have clicked since childhood, didnt know there was a name for it.

Hope you arent too uncomfortable or in pain OP.

Hi both, thank you for your replies. Pilates is a great suggestion, I've had bloods taken so this week hopefully I will find out if I have arthritis or anything else that might be aggravating it.

Jax- scoliosis is a spinal disorder, not the joint clicky thing.

rabbit- my scoliosis isn't due to hypotonia but i suspect it may be worsening because of something like this.

I hope the news is good and you don't have arthritis, too! Does the clicking cause you pain, or is it just when your joints lock that it is painful?

Both I supposed, the constant clicking makes them feel quite tender and stiff if that makes sense. Jaw locking and wrists locking are the worst its awful.
