SPD or stress fracture?

I am coming up for 32 weeks pregnant this week with DC2

Baby is all at the front and the last weeks I have been suffering with pelvic pain - particularly in the lower right hand side.

I have been wearing a support belt, which does help. The pain is worse getting up after I have been sat down.

I have a physio appointment in a few weeks and I am trying to stay as mobile as I can to prevent back to back/breech baby as had emcs with DS and want a VBAC this time. I can walk and sometimes it eases it, others not

My concern is that when I was 11, I was hit by a motorbike and among other injuries, fractured the right side of my pelvis - am starting to wonder if the baby being all front has caused the weakness in the pelvis due to the accident to fracture or similar?

HI there, Just wanted to say that I suffered severe SPD from v.early on in my first pregnancy and although the pain was all over my pubic area/hips etc, one 'side' of my symphysis pubis are was weaker or sorer than the other.

My DS is now 11 mo and I have been relatively pain free for the last few months. However, the physio pointed out that any instability in the pelvis (that maybe I wasn't aware of before pg) will potentially show itself due to the relaxin hormones in the body.

I used to feel really 'stiff' when I had just woken up, or been sitting for a length of time, and at first gentle walking did help me. I progressively deteriorated to the point where I struggled to walk even to the end of the path. Resting is what really made me get through the day. Please take precautions and don't overdo the walking. Seriously - my midwife led me to believe that the amount of pain I was in was 'completely normal' and therefore I just kept on going. I've since learned that this was the wrong advice, I had to be wheelchaired around and was housebound since 24 weeks. Not fun. Even if you are not in so much pain - taking it easy and watching what you do can lessen the consequences. Especially don't take your full body weight on one leg only, and sit down to dress yourself, bum first into the car, then swivel legs round. If you have to do stairs, then put one foot up, and the other on the same stair, then move up one step at a time. Same for going back down.
I hope this helps, there is a fab website with some more tips for you:

Meant to say I hope the physio can help you out too, also it might not be until after your baby is here that you will see how are, once the hormones start to settle hopefully your pelvis will settle back down again. I thought my body was splitting in two - light at the end of the tunnel 11 months on, I feel more normal.

Thanks Indigo - that was v helpful Smile

Sorry to hear what a bad state you were in though - must have driven you insane

I do try to rest as much as I can in the day, but I have a 4.5yr old and I do the school run most days and obv have to see to him after school - I do find myself having to push it at times just to do the basic day to day things but also because I'm trying to stay mobile and avoid gaining too much weight in the pg

Its a pisser quite frankly and am not due for another 8weeks and I find myself wondering how much longer I can do the school run iyswim

Oh Puss sorry I might have made you feel worse instead of better. That explains my emsc cos mine failed to descend, and here I was thinking that at 42 weeks my pelvis was about to burst cos the baby was right inbetween my legs! But it wasn't :(
Do not worry! This could all change and be better for you! I want you to get your VBAC!
It must be even harder with your ds, just walk really slow if it helps. It is a total pisser, but I honestly hope you feel better, just try (easier said than done) to take it easy xx
