Do you think I may lose my nail?

Have had a horrid infection in my finger

A week of antibiotics

Went to a pharmacy today to get it checked and she said it looked like the nail bed was still infected

The whole nail is lifting and is really damaged from the base up

If it does go, is it very sore? Am also weirdly squeamish about nails Blush

Any advice?

I've just had a big toenail removed due to it being ingrown.

It is a bit sore, but nothing very bad.

Get some Inadine from the chemists and dress it with a little square of that. Cover it with a secondary dressing and secure with tape.

You'd be better off removing the nail if it's lifting and damaged.

Thanks Ilove

Good to hear it wasn't too painful for you

Is there any chance of you removing it yourself? You're better off without it and it'll grow a replacement once the infection has gone.

I hate naily things too Sad

Have been told to let it fall off in its own time

Can take months apparently

Months? That's a bit much.

ilovemyhens · 23/01/2011 15:26

Sorry you have to put up with this. You'd think they'd remove it for you so that it can fully heal.

rubyslippers · 23/01/2011 15:30

I know - I thought that too

May get a second opinion - feel such a wuss Blush

ooh poor you - i got my finger slammed in the door at work at it took about six months for it to fully heal and grow back. when my nail came off it happened gradually and didn't hurt (i even picked it)! it's just a pain it takes so long

rubyslippers · 23/01/2011 20:18

Ouch SEA ... Reassuring to know it didnt hurt (except for the door slamming bit Grin)

You should try and leave your nail on, it will offer protection to your nail bed from injury, it will fall off as the new one grows. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks geraldine
