numb lip after wisdom removal

Hi, I had one of my lower wisdom teeth removed on my right side and during operation there was damage to my nerve. My lip on that side is heavily numb.

It has been 11 months since op and no change except gum is not as numb as it was. Has anyone else's feeling come back after a year or am I just being over hopeful.

Em sorry to tell you this but a friend had something v similar happen with a wisdom tooth and no, the feeling didn't come back. In her case, it was an area just below her lip so not as bad.

Worth going to get a referal to see if anything can be done? Ask your GP.

They said at follow up that nothing can be done if it is permanent, well not on NHS anyway

To be honest it rarely bothers me, think I am used to it now. I was just wondering...

Please don't ask your GP about dental issues, they spend very little time training on teeth and jaw whereas we spend five years almost solely concentrating on this area. The best person to speak to would be your dentist, they can the refer you to the appropriate person if necessary. Every month, I get a letter requesting more info for a person who has been referred by theor GP with no xrays or some other information missing.

Unfortunately lip numbness is a common problem after wisdom extraction, it amost always comes back but if it hasn't come back after 11 months it is unlikely to I'm afraid. That said, nerves heal extremely slowly so some improvement may occur. It's impossible to predic, particularly with no x rays from before the extraction.
