Tetanus vaccination and themerisol – any advice?

I wondered whether any of you had any advice about tetanus jabs and themerisol (sp?). I haven't had ds MMR'd, since we have a family history of ASD ? but I sort of feel I ought to consider having him vaccinated against tetanus, as he's due to start school soon. However, I heard a radio prog some time ago about worries about themerisol (mercury based preserving agent) in some vaccines possibly being dodgy, and not allowed in the US, but wasn't paying full attention ? does anyone have any info? Is there a choice as to the type of tetanus jab you have in the UK? What should I do?

There's a thread lower down the list on this. Try looking here

You can get thimerosil free DTP-hib combined jabs. EG Infanrix. I think that all single tetanus jabs contain thimerosil- but could be wrong.

In Aus thimerosil is banned from routine children's jabs that are given before the age of 5. I think they're less worried after then as the brain has developed more.

If they tell you that Infanrix is for pre-school booster and not as effective blah blah, just tell them its more effective than not having it at all. Mine were fine about it. Also Hiberix and Menjugate are thimerosil-free.
