Prolapsed bladder - anyone able to share their experiences of treatment?

My mum has a prolapsed bladder and her GP says the only way to fix it is to operate. She has done some digging around on the internet though and apparently you can have a ring fitted rather than the other type of operation her GP is suggesting (which her friend had done and it wasn't very successful apparently).

Anyone got any advice/experiences? Sorry for the very sketchy details - she asked me to ask MN and gets very embarrassed talking about it so that's all I know at the moment. I can go back and ask for more info if it would be helpful.

She's late 70s, in good health, bit overweight but not obese I would say.

TIA

I have had problems down there due to childbirth issues as have alot of women. I am not in my 70s either, unfortunately think it's quite common and gets worse as you get older if your pelvic floor isn't great. Prolapse can be mild through to severe so suppose the treatment depends on how bad it is for your mother.

The rings are temporary solutions but can be worn for long periods but there are disadvantages - think they can irritate and sometimes give a smelly discharge.

The operations can have limited sucess but again depends on severity of condition.

She needs to discuss with the consultant I would think. The rings are usually suggested first so that surgery can be avoided so it maybe she is unsuitable for this.

I hope she gets it sorted out soon.

There is a thread somewhere on here or on childbirth section about post labour damage and prolapses are discussed quite alot by women with a good deal more knowledge than me. If you search for it then maybe you could get more info.
