Waste of the Dr's time?

I've made an appointment for tomorrow but now I am wondering if I should cancel.

I work nights, and for maybe the last 6 weeks my sleep seems to be odd. I've been on nights for about 3 months, and for the first month I was all over the place as my body adjusted but I do remember a bit in the middle where all was good.

I can work a full shift with no problems, and I have no problems doing a day of things - shops, chores, hobbies etc, and often find of a night that I am not tired well into the early hours of the morning.

HOWEVER

When I am asleep, I am asleep forever. I cannot get up after 6/7/8hrs, or even 9 or 10 hrs, I am regularly racking up 12/13/14hrs. I can set my alarm for 8hrs, but I either sleep straight through it, or hit snooze til it runs out. I sleep through the doorbell and the phone too.

On the nights I work, I work 12hrs (8-8), and then am asleep from 9ish through til 6ish and although I'd like to sleep more, I get up because I have to otherwise I'd never eat or get laundry done etc and I have to fit in a shower etc

I've noticed I have no appetite either generally, I go through my 12hr shift often without eating (I have dinner before I go, then thats often me until dinner the next night) or with only a light "lunch", but clothes are not getting looser which sat here writing this sounds a bit odd. I am classed as clinically obese, but my weight has not changed over the last 6m or so, so I don't think this insane sleeping is due to being tired from lugging around excess weight?

Do I keep the appointment or does it sound just as silly to everyone else to make an appointment to basically say i'm fat and i sleep a lot?

Definitely go. My DH used to work nights and it takes its toll. 3 months is no time at all and you probably won't have adjusted fully yet, but even so I think the 12-14 hours sleep is worth raising.

As to appetite, my Dh lost half a stone whenever he went on nights and regained it as soon as he came off-I think it certainly does affect appetite.

Do make sure you get some outdoors time walking or whatever in sunlight whenever you can, and get plenty of fluids. With that amount of sleep you could get dehydrated.

Probably all down to night shifts but no harm in going and certainly not wasting your GP's time
