Toenail removal

Have had big toenail removed this morning due to being ingrown for the past 15 years.

It was quite an experience, but the lady who did it was lovely.

Have been told to sit down with foot elevated and not do much today. Will take 6 weeks to heal.

dh has made me lunch, but is now lying down on the lounge carpet having a nap Hmm

Anybody else had this done? It's been treated with phenol so it doesn't grow back.

Dh had both of his removed (at the same time) due to ingrowing toehorns.

It was quite painful for him from what I recall. His did grow back but they look odd, they are very narrow nails now,so maybe it's best that yours wont grow back?

Your dh is a right help isn't he?

A right help lol

Sort of Grin I think he was kind of suprised at the size of the bandage and told me not to do any work, but then didn't bother to help me with the laundry, so I did it myself, then he told me off Hmm

Anaesthetic is now wearning off and it's getting a bit sore.

hey i had one of mine removed about 6 yrs ago, mine was also treated and didnt grow back, hurt a little for a couple of days ( i was driving the next day) but it didnt hurt nearly as much as an ingrown toenail.

I had mine done a few days before Christmas but couldn't have the phenol as I am bf.

TBH mine was fine - within a couple of days I was back to normal but with a small dressing on toe. No weeping, no pain.

Mine will grow back so now treating with cream and spray (fungal infection - nice)

Had one done a few years ago, but it did grow back. Had to keep having it dressed by nurse, who was rough, so glad when that stopped. It looked odd when grown back, so went back to GP who had done op, who told me it had fungus disease and to see chiropodist.
Pain had eased by day 2 as I remember, so I could move about and drive.
I think you chose best treatment, and just need to ask for help for few days - good luck
and hope it stops hurting soon.

I did it last April, both off and phenol. They have regrown a sort of hard layer of thick skin. I am not bothered, the nails have gone.
About ten years ago, I had them off and had the nail bed reformed. It was soooooo painful I would have cut my own feet off had I had a decent knife. This time the pain was minimal and recovery around a week.
It is the best thing you could have done.

I had it done years ago!

When it was tightly bandaged it throbbed when the pain relief wore off. I put up with it thinking it was normal - I remember it clearly, it was bonfire night!

Next morning I couldn't stand it and took off the bandage to have a look, and it bled and bled and bled, but the pain disappeared and it healed really quickly. I thing my bandage was too tight and cutting off the blood circulation, so keep an eye on this!

Never had a problem since and it was 15 years ago.

Thank you for your replies Smile

I'm having no pain at all and have been whizzing around as usual Grin I hope I can get my shoe on for work tomorrow as the bandage is quite large.

I'd plan to wear slippers or sandals for first day or so; not worth having extra pain. Glad it's going so well.
