Toddler with very pale poo

My 2.3 yr old DS1 has had very pale soft poos for about the last 10 days. He is in good enough form generally, but is very pale. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this? Am thinking of taking him to doctors as wondering if this is a sign of being anaemic?

As long as they are a shade of brown it should be fine. If they go chalky-coloured for any length of time then you ought to go to the GP. Sorry, I can't remember what the colour change means, just that if it goes on for long it ought to be looked into. Might be just an imaballance in his diet.

Are they loose? And has he had any infections like chesty cough?

It could be a lack of roughage, too much fat..most likely diet needs tweaking

Swirl · 06/10/2005 15:01

Thanks for reply Prettycandles. He is a fairly poor eater but not eating any less now than usual, but maybe its just a build up over time that is leaving him a bit run down?

Zippi - yes they are loose. He hasnt much fat in his diet, but yes could see a lack of fibre alright.

It might be worth seeing gp with a sample as it can occasionally indicate a liver problem (maybe as the result of a virus)

Swirl · 06/10/2005 15:04

Haus - yes DS does eat alot of cheese. Never thought of that. Mumsnet is the fount of all knowledge!

Zippi - he did have a virus a couple of weeks ago that was a 24 hour fever. So will take your advice and go to the GP. Thanks

Was he OK

DS has this from time to time, I have discovered that is mostly related to his diet, not enough roughage, fruit and vegetables. He is not a good eater generally but have noticed when i am force feeding him vegetables more regulary the problem seems to go away.

Thanks for asking Zippi. Just the next day the colour changed back to a more normal colour, although still sometimes pale again. Have bought a fantastic new recipe book for children which am using to try to encourage DS to eat better - he helps me make the dinner, and is now eating new things, so am well pleased!
