I have today been tested and found out I have type 2 diabetes which is why I have not been losing any weight, have been so thirsty , had lots of thrush and headaches etc etc. I am 50 and adore cooking and food although I am kind of relieved I know what it is now.
I knew I also had arthritis but this is a new complication for me to take in- untila road accident in 2009 I was in perfect health.
I am a researcher by nature so am going to trawl the net but if anyone has any first hand experience or advice I would love to hear from them. My husband, now he knows what it is and that I am not just greedy and lazy(!) is actually being very supportive so that's all to the good. We have no kids and I have just returned to work three days a week so don't want to jeopardiss that in anyway
Thanks in advance

Main advice - check out the Diabetes UK website, it is fab.

Sticking to the right diet and maintaining good blood glucose readings will greatly reduce the risk of complications from diabetes.

Get eye tests regularly and take great care of your feet.

Low GI stuff all the way - ie porridge is a fab breakfast, cornflakes are a poor breakfast. 'Diabetic foods' are an expensive con, just as fattening/calorific as regular food in the main, and unneccessary.

The End! Good luckSmile

do research diet approach, not just GI but low carb, my friend's mum made it to her 90's using dietary changes
