does this sound like piles?

now i do intend to get to the drs sometime next week about this but its the weekend so a bit of pre-emptive advice would be good.
i have an itchy bottom and its been like this for a good few weeks. It doesn't really bother me when i'm up and active but if I've been sat for a while then I can start to feel it so mainly bothers me coming up to bedtime after a couple of hours on the sofa. Having checked in the mirror this morning, directly underneath my anus, a couple of the puckers (iykwim) are swollen and look a bit like a mini clitoris. I'm using sudocrem to soothe where its been scratched as it was looking a little red but does this sound like piles or has anyone had anything similar. I was initially wondering if it was more itchy as it is around the area of scar tissue from my episiotomy/ stitches but ds is now 3 so not sure if that is possible?
if anyone has had anything remotely similar please can you let me know what it was? thanks.

Try E45 itch Relief Cream, which calms down my bottom when it gets itchy. I've had piles in the past and treated them with Anusol but this can sometimes be a bit too fierce, iykwim. ITCH RELIEF CREAM is my standby for every type of itchinesss too.

Could be piles, but an itchy bottom, worse at night, you have a 3yo... I would check for threadworm being a possible cause too.

NinjaChipmunk · 15/01/2011 19:01

I don't think its threadworms cos of the inflamed bit and its not insanely itchy all the time at night. You just need a scratch once maybe twice. But will certainly bear it in mind.
Itch relief cream sounds good, might invest in some of that.

I'd bet you a £1 it's worms Smile They like to come out at night. I had worms a few times caught from DCs and early evening seemed to be the time when they got restless.

The little protrusions are normal-ish.

Piles tend to be bigger- like a grape- and you can really see them.

I have a couple but they are internal thankfully and only come down after going to the loo then they seem to pop back inside. One of the joys of my 2nd delivery, 22 years back! They never ever itch.

LemonDifficult · 15/01/2011 19:12

Ninja - this sounds very like piles, not horrendous ones, though. Piles are often internal where you can't really see them.

Definitely try Anusol but the GP can prescribe something like 9 different types of creams/suppositories for piles so there'll be something that works.

In my experience, if you treat piles quickly they go quickly. Let them hang around and they get worse.

cabbageroses · 15/01/2011 19:16

Creams for piles don't cure them- they simply shrink the skin temporarily.

poolet · 15/01/2011 19:17

In my experience, piles are itchy but they're also painful - ache at first, then feel like I'm passing razorblades when I go to the loo.

I find the best way to keep them at bay is to avoid being constipated.

If they flare up I use Anusol suppositories which are very soothing.

kelly2525 · 16/01/2011 01:42

Ok, I shall out myself Grin Im pregnant and going for a poo around 7 times a day, and I have one little pile as a result.

Its not itchy, just bloody uncomfortable, the feeling Im getting is like Ive got something stuck up there, but pile cream is helping, a lot, once you get past the, arrrggghhhhh fucking hell, feeling you get when you see the 6in nozzle on the tube that you have to stick in your arse

poolet · 16/01/2011 18:45

kelly2525 - surely suppositories would be easier to use (and less frightening)?

Maybe you need to find out why you're pooing 7 times a day though, sounds painful in itself.

FudgeGirl · 16/01/2011 20:20

Whatever it is, the more you scratch, the redder, itchier and more inflamed it gets.

Look up Pruritis ani - literally itchy bottom. Can be caused by toiletries, moisture, ill fitting undies, yeast infection and not wiping properly.

It's a vicious circle of scratching and itching.

Do you have any blood on the toilet paper? That can be the first sign of a pile but you can also scratch yourself sore as well.

NinjaChipmunk · 16/01/2011 21:05

I have occasionally had a little bit of blood, hence thinking its piles. I don't reckon I'm going to get to the docs till Thursday as although I have Tues off i will have ds and don't think he wants to see me get an internal.
From what you lot have said I will be surprised if its not piles or an infection. I'm not usually constipated but is there anything you can do on a day to day basis to ease the symptoms?

Could maybe be an anal fissure? Basically a cut in that area - when I get those its tends to be itchy but not really painful (often can't tell its a cut). Not sure if those generally come with piles though (joyfully I get both). But any bleeding needs to be checked out so definitely get the Dr to have a check. The Anusol might help soothe, or maybe even some Sudocrem. The Dr suggested for me Protosedyl cream (steroid cream) but I'd imagine that's only available on prescription. I find making sure I have a shower after a no. 2 to keep it clean tends to help too.

kelly2525 · 17/01/2011 00:43

poolet lovely way to introduce myself to you, and you to me Grin

The nozzle isnt that huge, I was just trying to lighten the whole horrible notion of my fat arse with its little wee pile.

Im led to believe im going to the loo so much cos my body is cleaning itself out for the imminent birth, that or the fact Im eating everything that isnt nailed down, means Im going so often, Im not feeling ill, just got a sore bum, and a baby squishing my bowel.

I have, what I once heard described as, roid rage Grin

Megasaurarse · 17/01/2011 11:25

I was just going to post a similar thread (hence the name change!!)
I have itchy bottom which often hurts when I poo. Sometimes there is blood on the toilet paper when I wipe. The trouble is this has been going on for over 2 months and I'm too embarrassed to go to the doctors.
The other thing is that when it started (sorry TMI alert) there was mucus in my poo and when I wiped although no blood then.
I'm starting to get worried about this now.

NinjaChipmunk · 17/01/2011 12:22

i think you know you need to go to the docs. they must see arses day in day out so please don't worry, i have heard the phrase 'better than dying of embarrassment' and i think it rings very true!
sounds like piles to me though from my limited knowledge.

Go to the Dr's!. Honestly GPs must see soooo many bottoms per day that they are certainly not bothered by it. I just imagine that they are in fact looking at something else - disconnect your mind from your body. Its really not that bad having the exam and they really have seen it all before.

Heroine · 17/01/2011 13:10

If your bum is itchy then it wil be inflamed, and being inflamed will magnify the wrinkles, and sometimes this can make them look quite scary..

Megasaurarse · 17/02/2011 12:34

Hi I'm reviving this thread to find out what happened to ninja. Did you go to the doctors?
It has taken me this long to pluck up the courage to go but I finally did it today. What a relief, she said it's internal piles and has prescribed steroids.
For anyone else with a similar problem - just go and get it dealt with, I feel so much better now I know it's nothing to worry about and the examination was quick and painless. And less embarrassing than I thought it would be Grin
