Just how easy is it to catch a sick bug? How is it passed on?

OK i am probably worrying unnecessarily but DD1, DD2 and DS2 had trampolining tonight. DD's 5-6pm and DS2 6-7.
I have to stay at the sports centre while they are there.

So an hour into my stint there another 2 children's nanny speaks to me and says she has been sick twice since we have been there and one of the children was sick last night but 'fine' all day. DD's have been with this child beside the trampoline and i have been in the room with the nanny for 2 hrs in total (she was sick again half way through DS2's class)

I avoided using the toilet while there and was across the room from the nanny but DD's were chatting to the child during DS2's class. (couldn't really stop them without sounding rude!)

Is there any chance of catching this bug from them? Just how easy is it to catch a sickness bug?
(emetophobe alert!)

It is really easy, but there are ways to avoid it, aside from excellent hand hygiene.

A doctor told me this tip. He said to stay away from sugary and fatty food and drinks for a few days. The virus needs sugar and fat to "break out". So, no jam, no fruit, no sugary drinks, etc for a few days. Ham sandwiches, lean chicken and rice with veg, etc. Plain water to drink. Coffee and tea without milk and sugar. Try avoid dairy, too.

its funny how it goes, I've found that tummy bugs arent so straight forward. I seem to have been really unlucky over the past few months with dd and dh and a random child being ill right next to me. I only picked up a bug the first time and even then I wasn't ill - just felt it.

If its any consolation, I used to be hugely hugely emetophobic but somehow seem to have become more rational about it with these episodes. So there is hop!

So there is a good chance we may all be ill from being in the same room? Angry Why couldn't she stay away!
I can avoid fatty food (If i try hard!) but i can't really restrict DD's diet.

Thnks OYBK, i should be less negative and keep fingers crossed we will be ok.

I caught a sick bug last month after hanging out with 10 kids from the local orphanage. The doctor who treated me told me that it is past on through contact with fecal matter. Nice thought Hmm

Basically, the kids didnt wash their hands after going to the bathroom. If unwashed hands touched that trampoline and then you or your kids touched the same place and then touched your mouths, then you would get it too. The best defence is to wash hands regularly and lather on the alcohol gel if you find yourself in contact with sick people.

oh I agree with you tortoise! I hope you are all doing ok today.

I guess i just have to wait and see. I did use hand gel on DD's but that was after they had done trampolining. DD2 is a big thumb sucker so no doubt had her thumb in at some point (drives me mad!).

OYBBK I am OK, trying not to think about it but do feel a bit queasy this morning.
