Hi!

I just wondered if anyone has experienced ovarian cysts and whether you had pain etc with them? Or other symptons?

Hi there

I started a thread about this at the beginning of the week and got a really helpful reply so hopefully you will too..

Anyway, I have a large cyst on my right ovary which absolutely flipping kills!! It is big though and I'm quite small so maybe that's why?? I was referred to the hospital for an ultrasound because of the pain I was getting and had a scan, internal and external and have now been referred to a gynaecologist and apparently due to the size of it (yuck) I will probably have to have it removed - a laproscopy I think. The reason I went to the GP is I am a very very broody lady and am desperate for another lovely little one. Unfortuantely, until this is sorted that is off the cards. Sad

I am doing very well and not being an internet doctor and googling everything but as far as I know there are lots of different sorts of cysts with lots of different underlying causes so if you think you have one then best thing to do is get it checked out by your GP as a first point of call.

I'm really sorry that this isn't really that helpful!

I hope you get it sorted and feel better soon Smile

Hi

I have a cyst on my left ovary. It's 6cm apparently and I will be having surgery sometime this year to remove it, not sure when as there's quite a long waiting list:(

I don't get much pain atm, but have noticed the pain gets worse when I have my period.

I'm a bit scared about it rupturing but have been told if it does I'll know all about it and to get myself to casualty.

Do you know how big your cyst is?

Flumpetty · 14/01/2011 14:46

You can experience dreadful pain if your cyst is on a stem from the ovary and the stem twists.

I had a 10cm cyst removed a few years ago. Most of the time I had no symptoms at all but I did find that just after a period I would get the sort of pain where I just couldn't move and felt physically sick. Then suddenly the pain would disappear as it untwisted. Mine was endometiosis so probably grew during my period.

If you have that kind of problem then you need to get it removed asap as it can cut off supply to the ovary and mean losing the ovary.

Luckily that didn't happen to me and post removal via laparotomy I now have a lovely DS.

From memory there are 3 types of cyst. Most are just white goo. Some are endometriosis and some are wierd things with teeth and hair! Very, very few are sinister.

Thanks all.

Had a scan and I have a cyst covering my entire left ovary- not sure on the size but they said it was large and would need a proper operation to have it removed not keyhole as to big.

The pain is severe now. Obviously worse sometimes more than others.

See a gyno consultant in 2 weeks and hopefully will have it removed sometime this year.

Poor you:(

Hope you can get it removed soon. I'm still waiting for surgery too and will be seeing a different consultant in two weeks time.

I have a dermoid cysts (the type with teeth and hair) on my right ovary that im having removed on valentines day.
I have had no symptoms or pain of any kind. I only found out i had it cos i went to my gp to ask for a coil as i bleed very heavily but he wanted to investigate why i was bleeding.
I was sent for a scan but they found no specific reason for said bleeding but found the cyst!
Dont google it its not pretty!!

A cyst was found on my right ovary at my 20 week scan with dd1.
I had no pain, no symptoms or anything to indicate it was there.

I was continually scanned whilst pregnant and afterwards (was meant to have a section and have cyst out at the same time but dd1 had other ideas and came early) so eventually had it out when dd1 was 6 months.

It was the size of a watermelon and weighed 5lb Shock (which was what dd1 weighed at birth!)

Lost my right ovary and fallopian tube as well, then got pregnant with twins in may 2008...more Shock

Odd things...

I have one on my left ovary which is about 2cm. Not sure what type. I have pain when my period finishes for about 8-10 days - very uncomfortable and virtually always at night so this means I am knackered as well. I was referred to a gynaecologist but tbh he was a bit dismissive. Spent half of my apointment on his mobile while I considered a laprocospy after he had pointed out all the things that can go wrong and totally put me off. Basically said the cyst was small and they wouldn't do anything until it was 5cm anyway so I think I will ask for more scans. (I bet if he had a 2cm on his dick he wouldn't be so blase)

Due to go back at the end of March to see how the pain goes until then.

I had a massive Cyst removed about 4 years ago.
I went to the doctors as I could feel a large mass in my abdomen, I can only describe it as like when you're about 4-5 months pregnant and when you lay stretched out on your back you can feel your bump pushing upward!

A scan revealed a huge cyst on my right ovary, it reached my belly button!

I went in for surgery where they removed over a litre of fluid and the cyst, my right ovary and tube too.

It turned out to be a simple cyst with a dermoid cyst inside it Confused

Anyway, recovery was quick, and I managed to conceive Ds2 with only the one tube too!

I never had any pain with it surprisingly.

Petal- it is disgraceful that he was on his mobile Shockbut what he said is right; they leave all cysts under 5 cm alone as most of them will vanish. Mine was 3 cms.

I am post meno so ovarian cancer is more likely but even my gynae who I see privately wanted to carry out what they call "watchful waiting" and I had scans every 3-4 months for a year then every 6 months for another year. it has gone now.
