dd has thrush - maybe caught from me as i have it though i have been as clean as possible in terms of washing towels once and handwashing. she is also on daily antibiotics indefinitely for a kidney issue so that may have caused it.

doc gave me canesten to use on her instead of nappy cream. does this work? any other tips except plenty of nappy off time?

nystatin, its great and is prescribed quite regularly in Australia for this sort of thing. its even available over the counter. you never see it prescribed much in the UK due to the tight grip of big Pharma.

in Australia you would be routinely prescribed both canestan and nystatin as they both work in different ways and nystatin is soooooo soothing.

yes its probably brought on by the anitbiotics. nystatin is nice. see if yo can get some.

Thank you I will try. So I put them both on at the same time ie every time I change her nappy? Or alternate them?

Does it work on grown ups too - eg on my thrush?

its what most women use in Australia, Canestin is nasty, Nystatin is very nice.

speak to your GP or pharmacist as you can get it in cream and also tablets you take. when i was bf i had nasty thrush and had nystan oral tablets and my ds had some drops for his mouth. i am not sure what types you can get in the UK but I know its not as many as Aus as my GP had to phone the pharmasist to see if they could get what i wanted for plain vaginal thrush.

having said all that you should be able to get her an external cream at least. Nystatin is very soothing for external thrush and feels better imediately you put it on.

I was a vaginal thrush sufferer for many, many years. Think I had my first bout when I was about 12! Some women get cystitis and some women get thrush, I was definitely one of the latter and how! It really began to affect how I felt about myself, and my sex life suffered too of course. I did have times when it seemed to totally go away, like straight after having my children, but then it just seemed to creep back again till I was treating myself every month again. It was getting pricey, plus I think that overuse of those treatments results in resistance.
Then one day when surfing the net trying to find a new cure, I read a thread where one woman talked about vitamin B curing her thrush. So I decided to try it. I now take two high potency Vit B tablets every day and have been amazed at the effect this has had. The thrush has totally vanished! And it's as if my whole flora and fauna 'down there' is completely different. I no longer ever get the thick white discharge I used to have and I just feel much cleaner and fresher. So now I just want to spread the word because it's just such a simple cure. Added to that Vitamin B has other good effects like helping with anxiety and stress and helping you sleep. Next time I go to my gynae I'm going to tell her about this and hope that she passes the word on. If you are a recurrent thrush sufferer I really recommend you try this. Oh, just one thing - don't be surprised if your first pee after taking the supplements is such a bright yellow it practically looks radioactive!
