If you're getting flu ? any type of flu? I'm sure that sounds like a ridiculous question, but I don't think I've ever had it - work in a high risk job - with the homeless - and loads of staff and clients have gone down with t, so am semi - expecting to. I've had a cough for a week or two and felt generally 'run down' but today have been sneezing a lot and have come home feeling very weepy and exhausted... Could this be the start of it?

You will know cos you will be in bed and not be able to do anything lol. It usually comes on quite suddenly. You can't walk about as normal if you have the flu. I will list mine as an example.

Monday - started coughing
Monday night - fever above 39, coughing and struggling to take deep breath, body felt like had been hit by a bus.

For the next five to six days much the same.

Two weeks on still fatigued.

Those who are at work and say they have the flu DO NOT HAVE THE FLU.

coolma · 10/01/2011 19:34

Ok! Thanks! When i say staff have had it - they have been off for about ten days at a time - I can't be doing with that! Hopefully this will go away soon and will have just been normal stressful life stuff Grin

Yes it could be the start coolma. Flu can make you feel quite depressed which could explain weepiness. Take care of yourself, stay in bed, lots of fluids and hope you feel better in a few days x

coolma · 10/01/2011 19:42

Stressed about work yep, usual stuff on top of that - hopefully a few nights sleep will sort me out, if it's not 'it'!

It is possible have flu mildly- like any virus. 1/3 of swine flu cases are completely asymptomatic- no symptoms at all. I hope you have it mildly if you've caught it! :)

pinkstarlight · 11/01/2011 13:19

it hits very suddenly, my daughter had swine flu she got up feeling fine ate breakfast and walked down the street all of a sudden she felt really faint and her legs went to jelly. she came back home fell asleep woke with a raging fever, really bad headache and every bone in her body including her face in agony, sore throat, stomach upset.terrible cough.she was tested and given tami flu straight the way but didnt leave her bed for a week, then spent 2 more weeks on the settee or in bed with general aches and pains and no energy.

dikkertjedap · 11/01/2011 13:59

But also keep a look out for any other possibilities, such as chest infection. GPs kept saying my dd had a virus she was bluelighted to hospital with severe pneumonia and needed an antibiotics drip and oxygen. So if you feel really bad or your child is really bad keep in mind it can also be something else which needs medical treatment before it goes totally out of hand. Her X ray showed lots of patches in her lungs (no idea for how long this had been going on but she had been having high fevers for two weeks). Keep an open mind even if your GP does not ...

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 11/01/2011 14:54

My Dad always used to say, if you saw £20 on your bedroom floor - if its a cold youd get up & pick it up, if its the flu you would ignore it Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2011 15:27

thing is howtolookgood, that isnt really accurate, people can and do get flu milder (remember media reports last time of people who had been swabbed who were saying it was more like a bad cold)

coolma · 11/01/2011 21:06

Pretty sure I'm ok actually - I think I was just exhausted after a long day! V stressed about things at work and having two lively children at home isn't helping! Such is the lot of us mummies eh? I find a long bath and a mug of cocoa is a great leveller.. Grin
