When will we stop being infectious?

DS and I have swine flu (the doctor thinks that's what we have) and, fingers crossed, we appear to be improving.
The fever seems to have gone, although DS is still snotty and we've both still got bad coughs - DS' is worst at night.

Are we infectious as long as we have the cough? We're both beginning to get cabin fever and in the next few days I would like to take DS to playgroup, but obviously if we are still contagious I wouldn't dream of it.

Any ideas when it's safe for us to mix with other people?

My hospital said 7 days after onset of syptoms for adults and 14 days for children.

So does that mean two weeks off school?

lucybrad · 11/01/2011 10:36

well, my boys were off for about 2 weeks as they were still poorly for most of that time.
Are you sure they have flu? If so then I suppose that would be responsible, but I know it can be a problem when your working.

i was told its usually 5 days but they add on 2 days as precaution,so its 7 days isolation. your most contagious when you have the fever which tends to last a few days.

Thank you. Looks like we'll need to sit out of group activities a little longer. School isn't a problem as DS is only 11 months.
