Citalopram for PMT...

TheRuralJuror · 04/01/2011 20:11

...Has anyone been prescribed citalopram for bad PMT?

I just wondered if how succesful it was, and how bad the side effects were?

I tried posting this in Mental Health, but thought I might have more luck here.

Thankyou

i was prescribed citalopram for mild post natal depression. it works for me as i feel like 'me' again and see things a lot more clearly than flying off the handle about silly things. im on 20mg a day

the name rings familiar, i think it was an anti' that i was on for a year when i had dd as i had mild post n dep. i did it by the book and came off (gradually) after a year, worked for me! just made me feel 'normal' again and not stressed or like a maniac, all the best

bump as I've just been given these too for the same reason

My husband has just been given these for Stress. He has decided not to take them after reading all the side effects and behaviour changes.Would be interested to know if any of you have had the side effects.

Yes! And it really worked for me.

Side effects - insomnia and not being able to pee first thing in the morning. Vastly outweighed by having my life back!

Yes, and it is working. Has taken the edge of the anger/mood swings. I am on a very low dose - 10mg - and haven't noticed any side effects really. A few little things happened that might have been down to the citalopram - a couple of weeks of night sweats for example - but may not have been due to the ADs. Tilly, why doesn't your DH take it and see how he gets on. He can always stop if the side-effects are bad. But if it is ok, it's better than suffering from stress.
