I have this theory...does it make sense? (might be a bit long)

As a teenager and into my twenties I had very painful periods, average amounts of blood, severe cramping and PMT. To the extent that my dad found me passed out on the bathroom floor at 16 and I was marched to see a gynae as "no-one should be expected to put up with that sort of nonesense"....I was put on the pill.

After dd was born everything calmed down and things were "ordinary"

I had an ectopic pregnancy and lost most of my left tube.

After about a year of very wierd periods things calmed down a bit and I now have 2 types of period

  1. Reasonable amounts of blood, dealable cramps & a bit of PMT
  2. very little blood, horrendous cramps (like when I was a teenager, and bad PMT and pains in my shoulder and chest

Is it reasonable to assume that the second type is when the side without a tube releases an egg and it gets lost in the ether (so to speak) or at least my abdominal cavity?

They don't alternate all the time but they do seem to be one or two of each then the other (IYSWIM)

Does that theory make sense?

Yep, it does, I wonder if theres something you could do to make the 2) scenario more like the 1st? What thins that sort of blood?

Hmm not sure, sounds possible though.

I also used to pass out with the pains when I was a teenager, throw up and have bad pmt.

I still do now, usually about 3 days of pains but I dose myself up that much with painkillers i can just get by.

The second type is so upsetting/distressing I feel like I'm having a heart attack or something with the pain in my shoulder and down my arm

My ectopic is now nearly 6 yrs ago and I think I want to "finish" it that's why I'd like to stop it

I can't comment on your theory, but what was true when you were a teenager is true now, ie that you shouldn't have to put up with the pain. Could you discuss it with a doctor and get some proper painkillers for the months when it is bad?

My Dr has given me some pills for the first few days of my period on the "lets see if these work" basis. He gave me the impression that he has some other things to try if this doesn't work. (Doesn't sound as if my problem is the same as yours, passing out must have been very scary!) So I would agree with the go to your Dr advice they do have a few more tricks up their sleeves.

I'm not sure i want any medication - I just want to explain it in my own mind....daft aren't I?
