Would you vaccinate healthy children age 7 and 9?

Just wondering if anyone is thinking of vaccinating healthy children who are not in an at risk group.

I had the vaccine about 6 weeks ago because I am borderline at risk group and my GP offered it to me again (also had it last year).

I'm not generally a neurotic person but I am quite worried about them getting this. DS is 7 and still suffers from post-nasal drip - which gives him a really, really bad cough, especially at night - just with a bad cold.

And is it too late anyway if it takes 2 weeks to take effect?

Thanks

I would like to get my two who are 9 and 11 vacinated. But where can you get it done? I don't think boots will vacinate under 18's. I am in Berkshire too so would be interested in where you are thinking of having the vaccines done.

BerkshireMum · 03/01/2011 23:02

I'm going to see if I can speak to my GP on the phone tomorrow - if I find out where you can have it done in Berkshire then I'll post.

Husband isn't keen but says he'll support me iif I want to do it...

I can't believe they aren't vaccinating all kids under 11. My friends son died from swine flu across Xmas he was 7 so if your kids can be vaccinated go for it. He was gone in a week. Wish I could get my 4 children vaccinated am so worried after this.

shirljon · 04/01/2011 08:26

Do we have any real positive FACTS about the availability of swine flu vaccine? Where do we get it from, and how? Do we need to pay for it? Do we need to go through our GP if it is for an under-18 year old? There seems to be too much disinformation around this topic for my liking. (I'm not getting at anyone personally by the way) It seems ironic that our children have been vaccinated with everything under the sun except this one. Could the reason be financial or am I being too cynical?

MrsFruitcake · 04/01/2011 10:10

I'll be watching this with interest. I want to get my two children vaccinated, am in Hants and am prepared to pay.

I work frontline in the NHS (and have been vaccinated myself) and am increasingly concerned about the whole flu situation. I will be calling my Doctor today to ask about the availability.

I'm not normally one to panic or cry conspiracy, but I get the general feeling that there is more to all this than we are being told.

No.

It's flu.

Elibean · 04/01/2011 11:40

Yes, I probably would, tbh. Both dds are borderline 'at risk' so were called for jab last term, but if they hadn't been I'd have probably gone ahead. They've never had any adverse reactions to vaccines.

I have just had daughter age 10 and son age 9 done at a private gp in richmond surrey - would suggest you contact a private gp near you if you want to get it done, cost was £25 each - might seem alot but I feel better about them going back to school tomorrow now, so for me it was worth doing - one less thing to worry about!

bubbleymummy · 05/01/2011 18:03

No, I'm with seeker - it's flu. Albeit with ridiculous media coverage and scaremongering.
