Flu jab for babies & toddlers?

Casseopeia · 03/01/2011 09:01

Is anyone getting their babies vaccinated? I know the NHS guidance changed recently & that kids between 6months and 5 years aren't routinely given the jab.

My 11mo is about to start nursery...

I wanted to get 2.3 yo DD done but I can't as she has no underlying health problems. Unless your DC has asthma or some other problem that could be seriously exacerbated by flu then I don't think you'll be able to get the jab.

I'd check with your GP to see what the criteria are, I know my friend's twins (who are the same age as my DD) got theirs because they were prem and have had lots of breathing problems in the past.

Thankfully no underlying probs.

Would be happy to pay for it, but going to a private paed (if that is the answer) seems OTT. Not sure they have it anyway. Need to get BCG vacc because of the area we're in...will ask about it then.

I think you can get a vaccine from Bupa but the ones they offer at Tesco pharmacy are for over 18's only

I'm taking Ds (14 months) for his because he is asthmatic, otherwise I wouldn't bother as I don't see the need!

enimod · 03/01/2011 11:58

can under 2 s have the jab-i might take my 14 month old then as he is asthmatic too

Sirzy · 03/01/2011 12:01

Over 6 months I thought. I have an appointment with the nurse to do his 12 months jabs (delayed due to illness) so checking then

enimod · 03/01/2011 12:47

he he-we do have the same child. my son has had his 12 month jabs butnot his 13 due to illness. should be tomorrow but still too chesty so possibly next week.

Sirzy · 03/01/2011 12:50

I have cancelled twice now so hoping we get them done next week I'm keeping his inhalers as they are until he has had it, not risking reducing ventolin just incase!

enimod · 03/01/2011 19:17

i dont know how much the ventolin works with my little boy-i arent really sure if it gets into him as when he has it via nebuliser he becomes hyper. i'm curently trying the yello spacer out as i think the orange one was too small. i'll ringup in the morning about the vaccine.
