Most palatable way of taking EyeQ or similar fish oils?

Dd finds the strawberry 'chewable' capsules revolting, and won't swallow either them or the standard capsules whole.

What's the most palatable way of taking it?

Bassett's Soft & Chewy - they do Omega 3 for little ones as well as children 12+.

Specifically designed to be palatable for children.

Unfortunately the Bassett ones contain vitamins at 100% RDA. Dd already has a good diet, so I don't think such a large dose of extra vitamins would be a good idea.

The RDA is the absolute minimum required to prevent diseases such as scurvy. You would have to take a lot of the Bassetts to actually get 'too much'.

EyeQ dosage instructions are 6 capsules x day for 12 weeks, then 2 capsules x day thereafter. Looking at the Bassetts ingredients, that would mean dd would be taking nearly 200% RDA vitamins x day for 12 weeks, and would only be getting one of the three oils.

When I give these to DCs, I get capsules and snip them open then sprinkle contents over fish fingers. The fishiness blends in and they cover it in tomato ketchup anyway.

DD will ingest Healthspan's orange flavoured "Brain Boosters".

How much would you have to be taking for it to be too much? Multiples of 100% RDA of vitamins, I mean.

Worth doing a Google search to find out more - but levels of RDA are pretty low. If you think your diet is good, then why supplement with Omega 3 at all? Just make sure you're eating plenty of oily fish.

Try thinking of it another way - do you ever restrict the amount of fruit you eat/fruit juice you drink in case you may exceed your RDA?!

I want to supplement with Omega oils because dd has behavioural problems and other symptoms that may respond to them.

As to worrying about exceeding RDAs, I haven't a clue how much of each vitamin we get from our diet!

Come to think of it, yes, we do: liver, when pregnant, because of Vit A. Though of course that's a different situation.

Things like the Bassett's products are generally available off the shelf - you don't have to get a pharmacist to give you permission to buy them and you don't need a prescription - therefore they must be pretty safe (unless you start taking more than the recommended dose, of course)
