Following the decision not to offer flu jabs to children Can I get my dd's vaccinated at a chemist privately as adults can for £10 and if not is it possible to get them done anywhere else and for how much?

I've read that chemists and places like that won't do under-18s. I suppose if you asked your normal GP they might refer you to somewhere that would vaccinate a child with the GP's permission? I don't know if they would, just guessing they might.

Having just spoken to my gp he suggested i go to ASDA or some other place to vaccinate privately. I phoned Boots who say they are only allowed to vaccinate those 16 and over. She suggested I go back to my GP and pay for a prescription for the vaccine - collect it from Boots then take it to my GP who should be able to organise an appointment to vaccinate!!!
Sounds like a lot of running around but don't understand why my GP didn't know all this before he sent me off to Boots.

Spoke to another GP now who didn't know any of these procedure issues and wasn't able to offer me a prescription privately for the vaccine.
I know BUPA are doing them locally for £12 but can't get hold of them now and probably won't til next week sometime. They may also not accept children under 16.
My GP thinks its crazy that children aren't being included as they are the most likely to spread the illness.

I paid £25 each for my kids (age 1 and 3) at an independent GP practice (got the number via Bupa on Google). Got an appointment the same day. theindependentgeneralpractice.co.uk = though had to travel to Cardiff from Bristol as none of the Bristol sites could do under 3s for some reason.

Our local pharmacy (local independent chain) does children. Maybe ring around?

Me and my seventeen year old had it done at our doctors as private patients. It cost £10.00. They couldn't do us unless we paid because we were not in an at risk group.

muppetisacat · 04/01/2011 16:02

My gp wont offer it privately as it will use his stocks that he wants for those in at risk groups. Whether or not that means he doesn't have much stock i don't know.
Currently phoning round private gp organisations.

My own GP has none left - neither does the local private hospital. I work in a surgery though and we have lots left and are vaccinating kids for £16. Hmm

It seems to be a lottery. I have been in touch with my MP as I really feel my hands have been tied about this. I want my children to be vaccinated - it's MY choice, not the PCTs.
