Experiences with glandular fever

I had Glandular Fever years ago which took me forever to get over and ever since I find following any virus my glands swell and I feel deliriously tired despite rest etc. Theses symptoms always arrive after I get over a cold or whatever lurgy I have just got over. I've had blood tests and they all come back normal, not even slightly out of range.
My question is, does one ever fully recover from Glandular Fever?

I was once told that it is five years before a person who has glandular fever is allowed to give blood. Not sure if that's true though.

My dd got this just before she was 3, she's 10 now and it still recurs usually in the winter or towards the end of term when she is tired. I feel for you.

I've long suspected that once you've had GF it kind of hovers in the background. I had it very badly for the second time about 20 years ago and whenever I get a virus (thankfully not often)the symptoms of GF return - swollen glands, extreme fatigue and in my case badly infected throat that anti biotics can't get rid of.

I had GF at 19 and I was nearly 30 when the bouts of tonsillitis finally stopped (probably had it twice a year and always swollen glands with it).

It could have been a coincidence of course.

I too had GF over 20 years ago but once I get a virus thesedays I am knocked for six. I get swollen glands in my neck, groin & abdomen. The fatigue is unbearable.

I have had numerous tests but nothing ever shows up & I am convinced the turning point was GF.

When I feel really ropey I rely on Pharmaton capsules which do seem to get me back on an even keel within a week or two.

Hi, I had GF at 13, I am now 26 and been diagnosed with ME, which is thought to be linked, but I feel its definitely got alot to do with it.
Even with the constant fatigue and other symptoms of ME, I know a week before I come down with anything! my glands swell and fatigue is awful, sometimes I can barely move. After about 5 days I may get a cold, virus, ear ache etc but I can always tell somethings comming. When ever I get the smallest thing it completely wipes me out!

I had GF at 19 - I was so desperate to get back to college I willed myself better after two weeks. I still suffered from fatigue for a year afterwards, but I can't say it went on any longer and I'm now 48.

I had bad tonsillitis with swollen glands in my neck throughout my 20s and 30s, but then again I used to get tonsillitis before I got glandular fever, and the tonsillitis stopped when I gave up smoking.

I'm not an expert, but it could just be that you are run down and prone to viruses that make your glands swell - doesn't necessarily mean the GF is still hanging around.

I get the glandular symptoms after I recover from any virus Joey. What is Pharmaton capsules demolitionduo? I'm the same, my glands swell in the neck, abdomen and groin along with crushing fatigue and depression - my eyelids swell as well, I find even lifting the kettle the muscles in my arm ache(I'm naturally strong muscular wise and have been known to lift heavier weights than men in the gym) these symptoms then subside and by magic the following week I'll be fine as if nothing happened.

i had glandular fever when i was 15. I'm now 29 and now have had rheumatoid arthritis for three years or so. i've always felt that i was never ill before i had that.

demolitionduo · 31/12/2010 19:53

Pharmaton are just a supplement capsule that contains vitamins & ginseng. You can get them in most pharmacies.
They aren't that cheap, but it's worth buying a small bottle of 30 capsules (1 a day) to see if they help. I think they are about £8.
