Anybody knowledgeable about what may be tested?

I recently returned to the Dr with suspected thrush (having seen him several weeks previously for the same symptoms) and a swab was taken to be sure that was all it was. I called for the results of the test today to be told there was an irregularity and to make an appointment to see the Dr. The receptionist wasn't able to tell me what the results indicated nor did I ask at the time the swab was taken what it would be tested for. So I am not worrying about all sorts of awful things but wondered if anybody could make any sensible suggestions so I can gather myself and not panic before I eventually see a Dr, hopefully tomorrow?

Thanks in advance.

I'm sure I've read that persistant thrush can be a sign of diabetes, do you have amy other symptoms too?

MoshiMoshi · 29/12/2010 19:43

Hi ilove. No symptoms other than those suggesting thrush. Not sure diabetes would be apparent from a vaginal swab though? I think I am destined to have to wait and see tomorrow. Thanks for posting.

The irregularity could just be as simple as you having thrush, but of course, no way to know until you go. I had something similar when I had a smear test - receptionist wouldn't tell me.

Thanks for that, Hallelujah. My husband pointed that one out too - hopefully it will just be a case of sorting out the thrush purposefully...

They do a test called a HVS (high vaginal swab) they test for things such as White blood cells, epithelial cells, yeasts, bacterial vaginosis and Trichomonas vaginalis.

So heaps of stuff other than thrush.

details here

it could be a bacterial infection and not thrush which woud mean Dr may want to give you abx, I wouldn't worry .

Hope your appt goes ok.

Unless they said 'urgently' then it could just be the thrush!

Receptionists/secretaries are only allowed to use certain phrases.

Hope it goes well.
