alternatives to Calpol

I have always believed Calpol to be magical stuff and always worked wonders with dd but ds really does't like it ( which I have never heard of in a child) What are the alternatives out there?

with our dd, we've always found that nurofen for children works better, its orange flavoured too.

Depends what it is for. Medised and Nurofen are pain relievers and have other benefits. Paracetamol can be bought in alternatives too, including suppository form and probably other liquid flavours.

DS hated Calpol, but loves Nurofen. DD only has melts!

Can paracetamol actually be bought in suppository form? I've never come across in this country. When I enquired about it in hospital for dd2 they looked at me in horror, as if I was a pervert asking for it. But in Germany and France it's very common, more quickly absorbed that way and free of all the additives, artificial sweeteners etc. Am really, really mystified why suppositories for children are not available in this country.

Eeek · 30/09/2005 21:48

you can get suppositories but I think you need a prescription. We used them when the pain of an ear infection was making ds throw up. He wasn't very impressed but they did work brilliantly

hunkermunker · 30/09/2005 21:49

Disprol. It's banana-flavoured. DS much prefers it to Calpol.

i never do the sugar free anything... contaisn all the artifical chemical sweetener crap aspertane etc... would rather them have proper sugar.

As said before try shops own branded paracetamol ssuspensions or nurofen (u can give nurofen and paracetamol at the same time)

medised is paracetamol + decongestant and makes drowsy... so you CAN give it nurofen but NOT with calpol as both are paracetamol based!
