Pain in breast

My left breats has been getting more and more painful over the last 3 weeks. I've been ignoring it but it has now go to the the point where it is really hurting. Also the pain is spreading and it hurts above my breats and under my arm.

I had mastitis in this breast but that was four years ago. I'm not pregnant and have a contraceptive implant in and don't bleed at all so don't know where I am in my cycle.

About 2.5 years ago I found a lump in the same breast - it was a big lump and really sore. My gp referred me for a scan but by the time I got my appointment the lump had gone so I never found out what it was. They did the scan and said that there was some thickening of the breast tissue.

I can't feel any obvious lumps but the whole breast feels sore and heavy.

Anyone know what this could be? I am going to go and see my gp on thursday but I'm worrying and could do with some reassurance.

Will be off to put DD to bed very soon but will check in later.

Thanks

Could be anything from a strained muscle through an infection in your lymph gland to -well, something or nothing at all.

Please go to your GP as soon as you can. Only a proper examination will put your mind at rest.

Thanks. I'm more worried than I thought :(

still see your dr but if this helps or not when i had my boobs checked recently the dr i saw said the 'more scary type of breast problems' tended not to hurt, still see your gp but thought i would mention this

BrokenBananaTantrum · 29/12/2010 07:39

I had breast pain and took evening primrose on Drs advice. It was cured in 2 days! EP is a plant estrogen. I was on the contraceptive jab at the time so wondered if my hormones levels had fallen.

Still see your GP though.

Thanks everyone. I couldn't get an appointment today as it was the first daay that they have opened after Christmas. Will try tomorrow. Thanks for reassurance will let you know.

Hi. So been to the docs today and she said that she can't find any lump which is a huge relief. Got some anti inflammatory and she says to go and get fitted for a bra and to wear one in bed. Will see her again in two weeks for double check. Anyone get any other advice about managing breast pain please?

Hello I've just been in for a mamogram and investigation of breast pain - Nothing sinister TG.
Have been advise to get ugly supportive sports bras Sad
Avoid caffine, red wine and chocolate, so I'm trying to decide if I can just live with the constant pain Grin
The funny thing I came to post to you about was the consultant said she is looking into why benign breast pain is in almost 80% of patients in the left breast???

wonka · 30/12/2010 23:53

Oh and Here

BrokenBananaTantrum · 31/12/2010 08:23

Wonka good news that there is nothing to worry about. It is a relief I know. I'm off today to buy ugly support bras today - not looking forward to it. That is interesting about 80%. Think I'll do some googling today. Thanks for the link. I can't open it on my phone so just starting up my computer.

Wonka - the left breast point is fascinating. I get pain in my left breast too and have been checked out and told I slightly more tissue there than in the other one but nothing sinister. GP thought it was probably because I carry the kids on that side (leaving right arm free to 'do' things)

Pheebe · 31/12/2010 08:56

errg 'the left breast point is fascinating'! I need more sleep and a better grasp of the english language! Hopefully its clear what I meant Blush

BrokenBananaTantrum · 31/12/2010 09:19

I was wondering if it is because I use my right arm more so the muscles.on the right side of.my chest are better at supporting my right breast?

My babies all seemed to feed better on the left maybe there is more breast tissue on that side. Maybe it is a muscle/ support thing.

wonka · 31/12/2010 13:22

SOrry sent that before I finished
It will be interesting to see if her research shows anything re L side.
LOL Pheebe I got you ehem point!

Evening Primrose Oil was recommended to me by my GP (needed to be a high dose but not sure what that dose was).

BrokenBananaTantrum · 02/01/2011 19:25

Think I'll ask about evening primrose oil. I used to take that before DD.
