Suitable alternative to cows milk required..

..please. I posted earlier on in the week about this but the title had 'poo' in it and weve sort of moved on.

DS had runny poos so I thought about intolerance etc.. but there were no other symptoms so not too worried.

However, decided to cut down the amount of cows milk and see what happened. Anyway, poos are quite normal now. Hes still eating dairy but not having cereal (half a pint there) or as a drink.

Obviously dont want him missing out on all the 'goodness', so whats a good alternative?

Just another though on the matter, could it be the wheat in his cereal?

I didn't see your earlier posts, so I'm not sure what age he is, but DS1 and DH drink Provamel soya milk.

22mos Dino, can you get hold of it easily?

There was another thread recently about ear, nose and throat problems and dairy intolerance.

My husband had quite a lot of these problems as a child and stomach upset problems as an adult (a bit like IBS). He's swapped to goat's milk - and the stomach problems have gone (well - unless he's been illicitly sneaking cappucinos or custard or something...). I cook with it too.

Neither of us like soya milk (generally too sweet) but he's got used to the faintly beardy tang of goaty milk. I think the protein is easier to break down or something.

DS drinks ricedream rice milk. You can get hold of both that and provamel in most supermarkets. It will either be in the 'free from' section, or in the UHT milk section. HTH

So will it be the lactose thats the problem?, soryy if I sound a bit dense.

Hi - ds2 (18 months old) is intolerant to cow's milk and cheese - brings him out in horrible nappy rash and eczema. We swapped him to goat's milk at about 6 months and he's been much better ever since.

MMH - you'd probably get a bit more advice on the allergies forum regarding what the actual problem might be.

I'd also try goats milk. DS had that for a while (he's become intolerant to that too now, but that's another story!). It's a lot better nutritionally (AFAIK) than soya/rice milk. You can also get goats milk cheese and yoghurt if you want to go the whole way. Most supermarkets sell it in the same section as the cows milk.
