How does cancelling a holiday on health grounds work?

Will DH have to see a special doctor? Will they take our GP's word for it?

Is it going to be a huge palava?

I thought that a certificate from your own doctor woud suffice. It should say in the insurance documents.

KatyMac · 23/12/2010 12:36

You mean I am going to have read it

OK I'm going in

OMG! Shes been gone an hour and not come back... no way am I going in after her though...

PestoEatsSnowWarnings · 23/12/2010 13:37

Doctor's certificate will be what they need, ring the insurance company though, to double-check and be on the safe side.

LIZS · 23/12/2010 13:39

Did you state that he had a preexisting condition when you took out the policy ? A gp certificate should be sufficient but if this were at all related and you hadn't then the insurer could get difficult.

KatyMac · 23/12/2010 13:52

Pre-existing declared (& paid lots for)

I'm at work so I can't really read it all

I had to cancel a holiday a couple of years ago due to a broken leg. I had to send in GP's confirmation and also gave details of the hospital consultant. They refunded immediately.

KatyMac · 23/12/2010 14:18

The GP may say he is fine

But he isn't - really he isn't

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 23/12/2010 14:22

Don't fancy your chances of claiming then if the GP says he is ok.

DontLetTinselDragOnTheFloor · 23/12/2010 14:25

Why do you think your GP may say he is fine to travel? Is he ot sympathetic?

KatyMac · 23/12/2010 14:29

Oh GP is fine - but DH is treated by Papworth for all his chest stuff - the GP rarely sees him at all for that & we can't see Papworth before Christmas

So it's up to me or DH to explain to the GP how serious it is - it's not just a chest infetion

OP posts:
KatyMac · 23/12/2010 14:30

Mind you would he be able to go with 'just' a chest infection?

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 23/12/2010 14:32

Don't worry, the GP will have been copied in on treatment at Papworth so will make a judgement based on the info.

orangepoo · 23/12/2010 14:35

I have just claimed for a cancelled holiday for "just" a chest infection (4yo).

The critical point is what the doctor says. If the doctor says "unfit to travel", then the reasons are actually irrelevant. The doctor's word is the law!!

Insurance co will not take your word for it, they will require a medical certificate. For this, I had to pay £25 which I couldn't get back off the insurers.

KatyMac · 23/12/2010 14:50

I just wish I knew what was happening - I have no food (apart from Christmas day at my Mums) no wood & no entertainment

KatyMac · 23/12/2010 17:37

Oh hell, I don't know what the hell is going on

The GP said DH's chest 'isn't to bad' & suggested he has his 'holding dose' of a-bs

DH has decided we are going

I guess I need to book some car parking - even tho' I really don't want to go

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 23/12/2010 17:38

If DH feels fit enough then you should go.

Enjoy it!

KatyMac · 23/12/2010 17:39

Oh the GP agreed with me about cancelling

Based on his temper it is still on his chest; he had brown phlegm this am

They have suggested 200mg of doxycycline....might as well give him smarties
