DD (10) is pretty poorly with a bug we have all had. Temp/sore throat cough etc. If she is no better tomorrow I am going to take her to have her chest listened to as she has chest pain and I want to rule out a chest infection. I have had this for nearly two weeks myself and I am still coughing/wheezing and feeling short of breath. My question is, when I ring tomorrow should I try and book a double appointment for us both or should I just ask doctor to listen to my chest whilst at her appointment? Has anyone ever done this before or is it not the done thing?

Ask the receptionist when you book the appointment. You need at least two weeks notice for being ill at ours.

MrsJamesMartin · 22/12/2010 21:59

Book a double appointment if you can. Really deonds what your GP is like aS to whether you think you could ask while you're there

If she has chest pain then you should be getting her seen in A&E right away rather then waiting for the GP.

I'd ask for a double appointment as the GP will need your medical records though.

Thank you. I never see my doctor so it's pot luck. I don't mind as they are very good and generally see you the same day if you don't mind who you see.
I will play it by ear I think. I obviously want to prioritise my DD and getting an appointment for me as well may be pushing my luck.

Her chest hurts when she coughs but not when she inhales. It could be the strain of coughing? but I wanted to rule out infection. She does not have asthma.

Just asked Dh who's a GP and he says book a double - if you can!!!!

BelleDeChocChipCookieMonster · 22/12/2010 22:07

She could have pulled a muscle by coughing. It's best to get her looked at. I hope you are both on the mend soon, just ask for a double appointment then you can both be seen at the same time and the GP will have both your notes.

MegGriffin · 22/12/2010 22:08

Thanks, I will try for a double but at the very least get DD seen .

Definitely ask for a double appointment if you can - there's nothing more heart sinking when someone accompanying the patient says "whilst I'm here..." !

It sounds like you've both got this awful virus that's doing the rounds - we've been seeing loads with it where I work. People have a low grade temperature, a very sore throat, a dry cough, headache and muscle aches and pains and generally feel grotty. It last about two weeks.

Hope you get checked out and are all better soon Xmas Smile

Haribojoe · 22/12/2010 22:14

Depends on the GP, some at our practice would be happy to check 2 of us over in one appt but others would refuse.

Hope you are all on the mend soon DS1 had this followed by ear infection and now DS2 has got it having only just got back on his feet after chickenpox.

Just hope DH doesn't get it as he's cooking the Christmas dinner Xmas Smile

MegGriffin · 22/12/2010 22:16

Thanks Sidge. DD2 has had it and ended up OOH with a chest infection but is now better thank goodness. I got mine the same time as her and am still not right and coughing up stuff (sorry). I would not normally go to docs with this but because Dds chest hurts on coughing I cant leave it to chance. Especially with christmas and the doctors closed all weekend.
