I've namechanged for this one but regular user.

A friends DC started a temperature last week and she gave nurofen and sent to school. Rang me the next day (I was off work) to say she was really bad but I couldn't have her in the morning so said I could do after lunch. Anyhoo she sent DC to school who was sent home to GP's in the afternoon. She then sent her to school Friday apparently she still had a steaming temperature.

After school the DC feel asleep straight away and slept fitfully all night. Continued to be very lethaergic, v high temp all Sat and on Sunday she rung OOH GP who diagnosed swine flu - saying its not as bad a case as the DC has been immunised.

I spoke to friend last night who said her DC was OK if on Nurofen and calpol and they had been to the city xmas shopping all day.

I can't help thinking that if it is swine flu then lots of people have been unnecessarliy infected.

I have said I will not see her until after the 10 day quarentine.

Am I over reacting?

How selfish and irresponsible from your friend. I would discuss it with her at a later stage tbh. It is awful what she had done to her own child who was clearly unwell and she has potentially and knowingly endangered other children and adults. Shocking ...

Snowqueen38 · 21/12/2010 10:56

What a selfish woman! But tbh - I dont think she is alone in her irresponsible actions.

orangepoo · 21/12/2010 10:58

It is no wonder illness spreads all over the place with attitudes like this.

MumBarTheDoorSantaUsesChimneys · 21/12/2010 11:06

I don't think it was a deliberate act iyswim. More she was feeling better so off they went. I think your right that its a relexed attitude about something potentionally serious.

She seemed pretty shocked that I said I wouldn't see her until Friday as planned due to 10 day quarantine.

I know she was in a quandry about work as she doesn't get paid if off for DC's and things are tight but I would have thought if it was swine flu then the child would have too ill to go despite nurofen/ calpol?

I think maybe its not/ wasn't swine flu but still why would you risk it?

MumBarTheDoorSantaUsesChimneys · 21/12/2010 11:07

whoops forgot to change name again. Blush

dikkertjedap · 21/12/2010 13:34

Mmm, even if not swine flu, I would never take dd out if she still needs calpol/calprofen to control a fever. IMO if you have a fever, you are ill and stay in bed. So I don't think that she is doing her own child any favours. Money might be tight but I just don't think that is an excuse.

Flowerbomb · 22/12/2010 14:52

I think that is disgusting, absolutely appalling. Unneccesarily infecting innocent people. I'm shocked.

bubbleymummy · 22/12/2010 15:57

If the child had a temp then she shouldn't have been in school regardless of what it was!

Swine flu can be mild or completely asymptomatic in some people btw.

MumBarTheDoorSantaUsesChimneys · 22/12/2010 19:28

Have to say found out today after she told me the DC was iller than she has ever seen her last Saturday that she went to town with them. Shock This was before the swine flu diagnosis but 4th day of temp.

I love my friend to bits but I am disappointed in her about this. Sad

pinkstarlight · 28/12/2010 05:19

my daughter has swine flu the advice we was given was that she has to stay isolated for 7 days.

maristella · 29/12/2010 23:03

we were told to stay in but have had to go to the chemists for meds, particularly for DS. i know it's bad of me to have gone out, and if i could have stayed at home i really would have, but there was no-one who could help.

i'm a firm believer in respiratory manners, but i had to get meds for him. no choice :(
