Get yourself a support belt. I have one on now as I slipped on ice a few days ago. Its gives your back a chance to heal.

Boots do one like this.

Sleep on the floor. Move around as much as you can. Hot and cold alternatively for 15 mins at a time to ease the pain. No housework under any circumstances - on painkillers you will overdo it. See an osteopath. No alcohol.

Good stuff. Smile

I popped mine on last night too after DW got sick of me complaining reminded me I had one in the drawer.

Osteopath or therapeutic massage, depending on whether you've shifted bones or strained muscles.
Ibuprofen gel on the affected area, or tiger balm if you have it, to reduce inflammation.
REST it - especially while taking painkillers - you could do more damage without realising.
Lots of water (drinking).

I have managed to pop/tear/god knows what 3 discs. It bloody hurts! Have you a walking stick? I had to hobble about with my grandpas old cane last time.

Painkillers don't work. I had 2 lots of horse pills last time and it made not difference whatsoever!

The osteo was a life-saver though. Better than a chiro.

Rest
Hot bath/hot shower
Strong anti inflammatory drugs
And when the pain subsides, exercising. Yoga is wonderful for pack pain.

wahwahwah · 20/12/2010 10:14

Oh yes - the osteo did say yoga or pilates. I can't remember which one. As long as you don't stretch too much.

I feel your pain -literally.

I fell on the snow and ice on Saturday, and landed on my lower back. My pelvis is all sore.

Spent the last 2 days with hot water bottles on it, although have been wary f taking painkillers- I'd rather it hurt and know when I've done a little too much, rather than take the pain away and do too much- iygwim.

Still sore but not too stiff today, have managed to wash my hair, so I'm having a ten min sit down before I move again.

The sad thing is it's made me slightly scared of going out, in case I fall again. Sad

I don't know if would be right for your type of pain but I use hot packs which stick on my clothes eg www.curaheat.com/. You can stick some directly on your skin too. I get them from a large Boots.
