Could I have [mild] ME?

Hello.

have had a bit of a light bulb moment this week. I am starting to wonder if I might have ME, in a mild form?

I have noticed that I seem to go through cycles of being ok. When I am in a cycle of not being ok, I have the things in my list going on.

Aches. Mainly joints, it hurts to walk up and downstairs. My wrists ache, and I get shooting pains through my long bones. My back aches in a tired muscle sort of way. My pelvis and hips ache like I have been running, even when I am just sitting.

Tired: No matter how I catch up on sleep, or get a normal amount of sleep for me, I feel dog tired. Like jet lag, I feel myself nodding at traffic lights.

Words: I get them mxed up, and use the wrong ones. I start a sentence fine and then it runs away from me and I can't finish it without really concentrating and stumbling through.

Skin: Sore. That's the only way I can describe it, especially over my cheeks and arms.

Sweating: I have days [the bad days] where no matter what I do, I just pour sweat. Only my armpits, but still. Could do without it!

Palpitations: yes. These are there on the down days, at rest. I've had a 24hr tape, it was fine. Naturally I didn't have any during that 24 hrs!! Xmas Hmm

Treacle: Feels like I am wading through treacle. Not surprisingly on these down days I am grumpy and horrid mummy Sad

The thing is the cycle. That's what got me thinking. Yesterday I was great, baked, did crafts, did some plannning for work, tackled some jobs that needed doing [phoning for appointments and stuff like that]. I thought to myself last night, 'OOO you'll pay for this good day tomorrow' and that rang an alarm bell. I shouldn't be thinking like that should I?

I went to town for a 6 hour shopping trip, and seriously I had to go to bed for 2 days afterwards.

What do you think?

BTW, I am very unlikely to be anaemic, and I have had thyroid checked in the past.

Have Dr's appointment tomorrow. Will he think I'm a moaning bored mum who whould loose weight and get out more? I'm scared of getting the Hmm face!

I realise it is Christmas Evem so have a lovely Christmas everyone, in case you aren't back before the big day. I'm going to stop by later today, all being well. Lots to read and digest.

Hi there,

I've had ME/chronic fatigue on and off for 17 years and for me it seems to go in stages too, I am what I would class as a extremely active person but when I start a bout of ME/CFS I tend to have pretty much all the symptoms you describe above. the first time I got it at university they didn't know much about it and I suffered for 9 months back and forth with investigations etc ending up with being told it was probably mild depression (total crap), I took a "then" new vitamin supplement pharmaton and managed to be back to normal self within 5ish months, that bout lasted about 9-10 months. I then had it after periods of immence work fatigue/stress (e.g working like a dog for about 8-16 months, about 60+ hours a week) for 2-6 months at a time over a period of 10 years. Last bout started just before my second pregnancy (following catching my brother's glandular fever infection) and am now pulling out of it towards the end of pregnancy although as you said some good days and then in bed for a few at a time. (I should mention I only got a diagnosis after 17 years!!! - and still they are waiting to make sure it's not just "pregnancy related" even when it started way beforehand) It is still however considered "mild" as some poeple literally have it all the time, many holding down full time jobs, have families etc, and I totally sympathise with children and wanting to enjoy great things that you may have planned but are just too tired to do it.

I was recommended the "overcoming chronic fatigue" book by the referred ME/CFS hospital support therapists and it did actually help a lot. For me it allowed me to think of myself as getting better in the initial stages but then changing my mindset to being a "well" person who has organised their life and sticks to pacing and what I know I can do without feeling crap. "pacing" is the operative word with any of these types of illness.

Also being a hypnotherapist myself I went to my hynotherapist who helped me on another level to manage my feelings about having a diagnosis.

I hope that helps in some way, I know I would have liked to know that I am not some "freak"and others also go through this "mild" form of similar "illness", and of course as others have mentioned there are so many other things it could be and may need to be factored in.

I should mention also that pharmaton really did help and I can't wait to restart it once baby is out.

Hope you have that wrapping done Solo?

Hello shirley123, thanks for the info. Will look into the pharmaton.

I didn't go for my bloods Xmas Sad. It's my own fault was up late wrapping and watching tv. I just couldn't get out of bed. Today I feel like I have been hit by a bus. Sore throat again, aching bones [forearms, shins and wrists mainly] and just so out of it.

Jet lag for Christmas. Great. Feel really very sad at what I am missing, and what they [dc's] are missing because I need to be there to whip up the atmosphere. Family are coming tonight so I need to make it happen or they will think I am a horrible misery.

Hope everyone else is in a good place Smile

I did get the wrapping down, but this morning I felt very unwell...but hey! that's life!

Hi alypaly, I don't think so. I'll google and see if we have had those symptoms. We have had any number of symptoms so it's very possible!

Happy Christmas everyone, hope you felt better Solo. I seemed to kick my own ass and rustled up the dinner. Slept for 11 hours last night, which has helped.

Once again, Happy Chirstmas and hope you all have a fully festive boxing day x

Late Merry Christmas to you all!

Glad you got though the day, Christmastreedelivery. Hope things picked up for you Solo.

I'm really chuffed because my recovery time has been so much shorter than a year ago: slept in till midday but definitely human rather than sub-species! Wishing you all the same...

Report
Christmastreedelivery · 27/12/2010 23:50

Well now that's great isn't it NiceCage? Do you think the reduced recovery is down to pacing?

still doing ok, although low level aching wrists are part of life at the moment.
Have done some lesson planning today, blooming 5 hours actually, but it's done. I can now be free of niggly worry until instensive work period of 12hr days and nights starting at the weekend.

Well, no worries......not counting money, health, kids, relationships.......Grin
But yes, my pressing urgent jobs are done, bar one. I can do that later [see me pacing, see that? Hmm?]

Dd much better, but has conjuntivitis and thrush. Temp down, but runny, sore nose etc and her eye looks very sore :(
I did get some sleep, but am shattered still.

Take it easy tree, listen to your body.

Will do solo, have dh at home all week. Only a hv check up with dd tomorrow, then nothing until the big week of work.

Have to say that conjuntivitis and thrush sounds miserable. Have you all manner of creams etc? Don't know how old yours is, but my 6yo has had loads of thrush in her years.

Starving hungry, but dd2 is refusing to sleep. They both have temps, sniffles nad general lurgy.

Yes, she's itching both ends bless her.
She turned 4 on boxing day and luckily was well ish for the day. Yes to cream and rops, but she I may sustain injury when I try to administer them as she hates cream on her bits and drops in her eyes enormously.

Drops*

Report
Christmastreedelivery · 29/12/2010 20:18

Tricky. WOuld she do them herself? Drops might be tricky, but the cream maybe?

FiveColdRingsForSolo · 29/12/2010 22:36

Hmmmm...no, the cream is for her bits. I don't think it's a plan really. Had an enormous fight with her to get the drops in earlier tonight! I'm fair worn out; she's a strong 'un!

Report
Christmastreedelivery · 29/12/2010 23:01

DD1 will put cream on her bits, if she is feeling like she wants to be independent. Haven't had to try eye drops yet, but am not optimistic it would go well. Good luck!

Knackered, and dd2 [21 months] is charging around the house with a book and a pencil, 2 bears and demands for eggs. Argh.

Oh Solo that is hard. Maybe when the flu is over you will feel better able to tacle the forms? Certainly a job for the energetic days.
I'm glad you ahve your year off though, is this unpaid leave of somesort then?

I havea sore throat thing going on, and dd2 has a huge temp. Have finished 2 nights, which is nothing when others work 7, and feel utterly wiped. I culd sleep where I am stood. Even my elbows and shoulder joints are acheing or have shooting pains.

AM very moany, so will bog off.

Regards to all, hope you are well and have a nice day before you x
