Could I have [mild] ME?

Hello.

have had a bit of a light bulb moment this week. I am starting to wonder if I might have ME, in a mild form?

I have noticed that I seem to go through cycles of being ok. When I am in a cycle of not being ok, I have the things in my list going on.

Aches. Mainly joints, it hurts to walk up and downstairs. My wrists ache, and I get shooting pains through my long bones. My back aches in a tired muscle sort of way. My pelvis and hips ache like I have been running, even when I am just sitting.

Tired: No matter how I catch up on sleep, or get a normal amount of sleep for me, I feel dog tired. Like jet lag, I feel myself nodding at traffic lights.

Words: I get them mxed up, and use the wrong ones. I start a sentence fine and then it runs away from me and I can't finish it without really concentrating and stumbling through.

Skin: Sore. That's the only way I can describe it, especially over my cheeks and arms.

Sweating: I have days [the bad days] where no matter what I do, I just pour sweat. Only my armpits, but still. Could do without it!

Palpitations: yes. These are there on the down days, at rest. I've had a 24hr tape, it was fine. Naturally I didn't have any during that 24 hrs!! Xmas Hmm

Treacle: Feels like I am wading through treacle. Not surprisingly on these down days I am grumpy and horrid mummy Sad

The thing is the cycle. That's what got me thinking. Yesterday I was great, baked, did crafts, did some plannning for work, tackled some jobs that needed doing [phoning for appointments and stuff like that]. I thought to myself last night, 'OOO you'll pay for this good day tomorrow' and that rang an alarm bell. I shouldn't be thinking like that should I?

I went to town for a 6 hour shopping trip, and seriously I had to go to bed for 2 days afterwards.

What do you think?

BTW, I am very unlikely to be anaemic, and I have had thyroid checked in the past.

Have Dr's appointment tomorrow. Will he think I'm a moaning bored mum who whould loose weight and get out more? I'm scared of getting the Hmm face!

Horrible. Could it be something you could remedy, with tonic water or isotonic drinks? If it's the restless legs/cramps type of thing that can help.

solo · 26/01/2011 10:35

I don't know tree, I've never tried anything and I'm not sure if it's under the same umbrella as RLS. It definitely isn't like cramping.

Go to sleep, but don't forget to set your alarm!

I am going to wash up...well, that's the plan Wink feeling a bit sick for some reason.

treedelivery · 26/01/2011 20:11

How did the washing up go Solo? Were you just too sick to do it? Grin [Really hope you weren't feeeling too sick obviously Blush]

I took heed. Well, I didn;t sleep but I lazed with a computer until dd2 arrived home from preschool. Couldn't do school run due to car worries which has been blissful. Then she was in the first good mood I've seen around here in days. She was 2 on Saturday. She's been a little whatsit ever since.

So I made a cake whilst she ate fro the first time in days. Then dd1 was droped off by the school run fairy adn actually I feel a little better fro a rest.

Am building sandcastles in the sky about a trip into town tomorrow. DD2 has a new skirt I want her to wear, and I'm desperate to pick up some play food for our new play kitchen. So I'd really like to achieve that.
I teach in the afternoon though, then have a meeting, then I take dd1 to gymnastics, then I'm taking her to a family friendly local pizza restaurant with a gym friend.
It's their first time doing something together, and my first time doing something with this lovely lovely mum.

Hmmm. Maybe leave town until Friday! I really want to bounce back and try enjoy last bit of annual leave. It's been a total nightmare until now. It started last monday and has been horrible up till today.

Moan moan moan. Tomorrow will be ok. I have decided.

treedelivery · 27/01/2011 22:53

Dr's tomorrow. Wish me luck!! Smile

alypaly · 27/01/2011 23:18

alypaly · 27/01/2011 23:18

is it (sp)

solo · 27/01/2011 23:33

Good luck tree!

moosemama · 28/01/2011 11:02

Just popping in to wish Tree luck at the Drs today.

Apologies for not reading thread and disappearing for weeks - things are, well a bit tough at the moment and as usual I've gone downhill physically as well which has made everything so much harder.

Hoping for a better February.

treedelivery · 29/01/2011 15:53

Hi all.

Hey Moose - a better February to you my love. I always think Feb flies, a short little hop and it's March - which means spring, easter and lighter days :-) It all helps.

Thank you for all the good luck and well wishes. All tests normal, I really hoped for a nice easily treated low thyroid or something. Which is stupid, as I'm sure many people on thyroxine don't feel they have anything nice or easy.
But you know what I mean - a certain something with a medication to fix it.

So, am now on ssri ad, which I start at low dose for a week then work up. Wil take a month to see a 'result' and actually I am really hoping and lookin gfroward to the fog lifting. I hope they work.

If not, then I'm to go to a rhumatologist for a consultation.

On the whole then, I'd say well treated and fair enough. Common things are common, I am more likely to suffering from depression than ME I guess. I just want the sore throats and pain/weakness to bug off!

I hope our wee thread rolls on though, I'll certainly keep updating

solo · 29/01/2011 18:34

Well that's good news I suppose...but I'm not sure that your symptoms point to depression Hmm hark at Doctor Solo!!! but you never know, the ssri's might help with the symptoms anyway as that's (often) what they prescribe to help with them anyway...
I'll do my best to keep posting too, but if I drop off the radar, give me a (PM) nudge!

treedelivery · 30/01/2011 15:05

Day 3 of AD's. I've taken one, forgotton one, and today I can't find the box GrinHmm

Going well!

solo · 30/01/2011 23:31

Grin you sound like me! you'll get into the habit of taking them, don't worry!

CrosswordAddict · 31/01/2011 09:01

Treedelivery I had something like this about twenty years ago. It began with something like tonsillitis and then went on for about two years. I was never properly diagnosed, partly my fault for not pushing it and partly the doctor's fault for not taking me seriously. I had a lot of silly suggestions from the medical profession yet none of the doctors I saw had anything constructive to offer. I only found out latterly (a couple of years ago) from a friend about something called EPSTEIN-BARRE SYNDROME. It fits your symptoms and if you google it you will see what I mean. By the way I am not a medical expert but would not like anyone to suffer the way I did. I reached some very low points when I was too weak to fill the kettle to make myself a drink. For what it's worth I made a full recovery and went on to get married, have kids etc

CFSKate · 31/01/2011 09:56

treedelivery - you asked about the well/unwell cycles being a matter of days, not weeks or months. That doesn't sound odd at all.

MrsRichardHammond · 31/01/2011 12:40

Hi i've just found this thread and wonder if i can join. I have been recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia - a condition not unlike ME and CFS - and am really struggling.

solo · 31/01/2011 16:47

Welcome MRH :) Fibro is under the same umbrella as CFS and ME. You are very welcome here.

alypaly · 31/01/2011 23:25

just matking my spot Smile seeing rheumatologist on wednesday. been on steroids for 9 days which helped but now im going backwards after 3 days of no steroidsSad

treedelivery · 01/02/2011 18:13

Hello CSFKate, thanks for that. Good to know, like I say I just thought cycles would be really long. No idea why!

Welcome MrsRichardHammond, pull up a chair and join in. SO sorry to hear you are having a hard time at the moment. What's been going on?

CrosswordAdddict - I'll have a read about it. Interesting, thank you for the tip.

Hey alypaly good luck tomorrow. Do you think you will be staying on the steroids then? Have they helped with your eyes?

solo · 01/02/2011 23:12

Good luck for tomorrow aly.

treedelivery · 02/02/2011 13:10

Let us know how you got on Aly.

Have my dh home today. It is soooooo easy with two of us doing the morning/school run. How I'd like to get used to this!

MrsRichardHammond · 02/02/2011 13:28

Good luck Aly.

Thanks tree. Im in the middle of a bad flare and beginning to wonder if i can carry on with the whole work/home thing

magso · 02/02/2011 13:36

Hi all, may I join in? I have been following this thread plucking up the energy to see the gp. I made an appointment - its been a long wait and its now tommorrow. I have presumed PVFS since pneumonia nearly 2 years ago but I had suspected CFS before that. I dont really know what to say to the gp and hoped you could help. Should I start a new thread or just join in? Trees description at the beginning was so similar. I can certainly identify with the extreme jet lag feeling - disorientation and dizzyness and heavy putty limbs. Sleep paralysis hanging into the day feeling with a brain in energy saving mode!
I have got good at pacing myself but I would so like my previous less achy/clumsy/ heavy body and brain back. Oh and hair please!
Because the type of pneumonia I had and other complications I have already seen a rhematoloist ( OK ish) Cardiologist ( OK ish) respiratory specialist (still attending) even a physch. I get the impression others think I am either depressed ( I'm not) or malingering or both.

magso · 02/02/2011 13:37

Ps hope you get the help you need Aly.

solo · 02/02/2011 16:35

Join us here magso :)

magso · 03/02/2011 10:10

Thank you!
My gp has sent me for blood tests. I feel a bit cross with myself as I know the bloods will come back normal. Is there anything more to investigate.
How did you get on Aly?
I have been a lot better over the last couple of months (although I still struggle to work 1 day a week) and wonder if the vit d3 suppliment I started 3 months back has helped(that and better asthma control).
