I have been told by my doctor what a problem I have is and have tried to google to get more info. There are so many health/doctor sites, can anyone recommend the best one please?

is there a charity or official support group for the condition? Personally i weed out anything which is non UK initially, has loads of adverts or recommends I buy particualr products from them.

NHS sites, or netdoctor are usuallypretty good as a starting point, and usually have links to support groups or further info.

(Actually I usually start off with a MN search Blush).

I'm a pharmacist and mostly use NHS Direct, Clinical Knowledge Summaries, and Nice. But the patient organisation for the condition is also often very useful - make sure it's a registered charity (it should say at the bottom of the webpage) and not something sponsored by a pharmaceutical company though (this will usually be obvious).

Oh yes, and I second the UK only thing suggested by SV. Otherwise you may end up reading about treatments or tests not available in this country.

Hi everyone,

I couldn't find anything on NHS direct and have been out all afternoon so will have to google some more I think.

Thank you.

I also agree that Patient.co.uk is very good. A lot of the GP leaflets they print out in surgeries come from that site.

tribpot · 13/12/2010 19:13

I work with a GP and he said recently the only sites he recommends are patient.co.uk and NHS Choices.

StealthPolarBear · 13/12/2010 19:14

healthclick

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 13/12/2010 19:14

Do you want laymans terms Fab or more 'medical'?

I use emedicine it's American though so depends what you're looking for.

activate · 13/12/2010 19:15

dependent on condition you can google the name and forum and see if there is a network you can join

being able to taalk to others in same situation is very useful

NHS for base facts
American sites have good advance treatmens

StealthPolarBear · 13/12/2010 19:15

or name change and ask on here - that's what I do :o (but without the NCing)

IAmReallyFabNow · 13/12/2010 19:16

Layman definitely. Got my first aid badge in Brownies and did a first aid course about 14 years ago and that is that.

It is globus.

"Globus"? As in "globus pharyngis", also known as "globus hystericus"?

These websites may be of use:
experience.patient.co.uk/discussion_list.php?d=1763
www.patient.co.uk/doctor/Globus-Hystericus.htm
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Globus_Pharyngis

Hope is helpful.

Thank you. DH found me a quick fix but I can't bare anything against my neck so can't try it. Stress is a major cause apparently.

No I haven't. I tend to try and drink water and have my daily treat of sugar free jelly and cream Grin.
