I think my best friend has an alcohol problem - can I help?

I think my amazing, lovely best friend may have a drink issue.

She's very tall and amazonian, and has always been able to drink more than most women so it's crossed my mind several times that she drinks a good amount but not concerned me too much.

However, she's been really desperate to move jobs and today had an interview. I called her just before it and she told me that she'd just had a glass of wine to loosen her up. She also mentioned she hadn't had a day without alcohol in the last six weeks 'nothing less than half a bottle'.

Should I say something? Is it better to stay quiet? I don't want to seem a bit over the top.

I don't thnk drinkng half a bottle every day is that bad

but pretty silly to drink before a job interview

did she get the job?

If she didn't and moans about it I'd casually say well maybe drinking wine before not a good idea
but beware she might blow up at you

Thanks for replying.

I think you're right about the half a bottle thing, not that much really. But she's drunk a lot more than many, many nights. Oh dear, I'm sounding a bit prim, aren't I?

I don't think half a bottle is too bad either, but don't most people who rely on drink lie about how much they drink? Does a bottle actually last her two nights, or does she open another on the second night?

I think if she's drinking before an interview, she has a problem with alcohol. Did she have to drive there? Did she think they wouldn't smell it on her?

I gave up drinking during the week after reading a newspaper article by a liver transplant surgeon. He said around 70% of his patients are people who drink the equivalent of half to one bottle of wine per day and consider themselves moderate drinkers.
