Oh bugger - found a lump

This morning I felt a lump under my right breast - it was sore when I touched it but not sore now even though lump is still there. Confused. Have doc on Friday morning, haven't told RL friends. Anyone with similar experience?

if you need a hand to hold take a look at the Tamoxifen thread- lots of us have been through this and can help Xmas Smile

bruhaha · 08/12/2010 21:02

Thanks I will.

I went through this only a month ago. Hold my hand - it was a scary few weeks.
Apparently a painful lump is more likely to be harmless, mine turned out to be glandular tissue which was tender just ahead of my period. Is your period due?

KittyFoyle · 08/12/2010 21:04

Just remember most are nothing serious, espcecially sore ones. Could be a hormonal thing, a cyst, something like that. Good you have doc appointment and are taking action, not just worrying. Good luck. And don't start googling things because you always end up reading dreadful tangents that make you think you have only minutes to live.

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/12/2010 21:07

yes, don't google -it doesn't help...chances are it's hormonal so do try not to worry

littlesaintnicola · 08/12/2010 21:10

A painful lump may be more likely to be harmless but mine turned out to be stage 3 ,grade 3 aggressive.Sad

It took 2 kinds of chemo to get rid of the bugger . That was 5 years ago.

My story is unusual but nevertheless...

No matter what , always get anything unusual checked out. You know it makes sense.Smile

NorthernLurker · 08/12/2010 21:15

I had a very painful lump once - abcess type thing. Just get it checked! Good luck.

twirlymum · 08/12/2010 21:19

I had this a year ago. Was referred as urgent. Had a mammogram and ultrasound two days later.
Thankfully it was a harmless cyst, but that two days were hell. I'd planned my funeral.
Always better to get things checked out.

bruhaha · 08/12/2010 21:21

Thanks all - unfortunately I did google! Big mistake.

Told dh and he keeps looking at me - he had a feel and went 'oh go to doc'. Period not due for 2 weeks.

I'm normally a 'look on the dark side' kind of girl but I've been ok - just need to stop touching the bloody thing :)

bruhaha · 08/12/2010 21:25

With two ds's (3yr & 4mths) I won't give myself time to dwell on it, and also with this bloody snow we're all going stir crazy.

OP posts:
Beamur · 08/12/2010 21:26

I was mentally preparing my funeral - despite knowing it was probably nothing and my Mum actually having had a fairly aggressive tumour several years ago and now being totally recovered.
You are doing the right thing in getting it checked out, most are harmless, but even if it is bad news, it is very treatable.

bruhaha · 08/12/2010 21:43

Thanks all - really appreciate your replies. Off to take care of the wee one Smile

good luck today and let us know. If the doc is at all concerned you'll be referred to the breast clinic and should be seen within 2 weeks -the waiing bit is hell obviously but please bear in mind that if it is anything the system swings into action very quickly and you will be well looked after- it is do able. Take care and thinking of you.

bruhaha · 09/12/2010 08:51

hi MAS - my appointment is tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 09/12/2010 11:22

ah,sorry- will think of you tomorrow !

bruhaha · 09/12/2010 13:03

No worries.

I've started feel down now. Was lying on couch with ds1 and had a wee bubble (he was faced other way watching cbeebies). Need to get a grip and get busy! I hoped this morning that when I got up it would have disappeared. No such luck. Hopefully it's nothing!

bruhaha - another tamoxifen thread regular here, wishing you all the best for tomorrow - I can't add anything better than MAS, but echo what she said - if you need to talk with people who have been through similar, please pop into the tamoxifen thread - there's always someone around for a chatSmile.

SparkleRainbow · 09/12/2010 13:51

Bruhaha I joined the tamoxifen thread about a month ago, I am still undergoing investigation, but the people on there are fantastic, they have kept me sane and laughoing over the last few weeks, so if you need support pop over. Smile

TheUnmentioned · 09/12/2010 13:54

i have had this twice and been referred to the breast clnic where i had an ultrasouns, all ok. you get a mammogram, i think, if over 35 and if it looks suspicious a biopsy.

good luck

Winetimeisfinetime · 09/12/2010 14:04

Good luck for tomorrow bruhaha. I found a large lump under my left breast when my ds was 6 months old and was terrified. It turned out to be a cyst caused by breast milk. Very common apparently.

I know it is almost impossible not to worry whilst you are waiting to find out what it is, but try and take comfort in the fact that the vast majority of lumps are benign - over 80% in fact.

bruhaha · 09/12/2010 14:10

Thanks for the invite to the other thread - I'm holding off until I know if something is wrong. I keep thinking he'll say it's nothing - maybe I'm being naive. I don't want to introduce myself to the tamoxifen thread in case it's nothing and then I'd feel daft especially considering that the posters on their have been diagnosed and are going through it.

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 09/12/2010 14:30

I have not been diagnosed yet they are still investigating, but all the other posters have been so supportive of that process too for me it has been invaluable, but understand what you are saying about feeling uncomfortable about joining them. You need to cope with the next few days in whatever way helps you the best. I know I am going through the same thing right now. I am here to hold your hand if you need it. Smile

smee · 09/12/2010 16:32

bruhaha, winetime is right; 9 out of 10 lumps are benign, so try and keep hold of that. But if you do end up being one of the unlucky ones well there are quite a few of us on here and we're all still very much alive, I promise. Good luck tomorrow. Hope you get some good news soon.

FoxyRevenger · 09/12/2010 21:23

I had this a few years ago - was a blocked cyst. Still feel it on and off, sometimes it hurts, sometimes not, but according to doc it's nothing exciting.

Sure it will be the same for you

x

bruhaha · 10/12/2010 10:50

Hi all - back from Doc and he said it's a cyst - I've to go back in a month and he will check it again.

Thank you so much for your support. Hope you all have a great christmas.
