I have perpetually cold feet and as the summer is coming to an end (sob)they are getting worse. I have decided that this winter I WILL NOT SUFFER and I am asking your advice on what are the warmest, cosiest socks, boots, slippers etc. I spend most of the morning in the park with kids and dog so need shoes/boots that are waterproof or water resistent. Wellies are a no no, even with thermal insoles my feet are like frozen slabs of meat within half an hour. And they take all day to warm up, sometimes I have to even run them under the hot tap to thaw them out. Please help meeeeeee.........

size 3 feet MI?! How cute and dainty.

motherinferior · 26/09/2005 19:39

No, they are small, flat and flipper-like. But small, yes, I'll grant you. Just as well as I too have to wear heftily warming footwear.

Cha · 27/09/2005 17:08

Wow - cheers for all the info. Seems like the real sheep thing is a winner. Make my feet feel warm just looking at them. Skin flint here but is there a cheaper alternative? I see in my Vertbaudet catalogue beside me that I can get 100% polyester fur lined boots for £11.99. Will they just be rubbish and a false economy?

Yes they will be rubbish, polyester doesn't keep you warm at all. I have really great walking socks from Hawkshead, they kept my feet toastie warm, but I am quite a hot person anyway and only really suffer with cold feet if I'm standing around in the cold.

starshaker · 27/09/2005 17:14

i used to have really cold feet now i just wear sox and my comfy sketchers

bran · 27/09/2005 17:18

Hawkshead are doing 3 for 2 on their socks, these are the ones I have, and these are woolly.

bran · 27/09/2005 17:19

That woolly one was a bad link, try this .

SoupDragon · 27/09/2005 17:20

I really wouldn't recommend you insert your feet into a real sheep, Cha. Stick to sheepskin boots instead...

Cha · 27/09/2005 21:15

Oh I quite fancy the idea, soupdragon. It would be deliciously warm - well, for a while anyway...

Fur lined boots are still in fashion arn't they? I have some gorgeous soft ones from Fat Face last winter, totally toasty.

Cha · 27/09/2005 22:16

Good tip about the hat, cheers, I'd forgotten that. It really does make a difference. Just need to find a nice one - always look such a nit in hats. And the microwavable slippers look wonderful too, only I don't have a microwave. Dark Ages I know.

I hope the fur lined boots are still in, passionflower! Am counting on it. Seems that is the way to go if you want warm feet. I sneered at them last winter but am now seeing sense. As usual a year after everyone else. Sigh.

I wear 2 pairs of socks 1 thin and 1 wooly and wear boots that aren't to tight to allow for air to circulate, I also have thermal insoles with a foil layer underneath. Make sure feet are toastie before putting boots on. Manage to survive 12hr shifts outdoors. A good pair of walking boots under £50 should be fine from any outdoor shop for parks and country walks.

I really struggle to keep fingers from going white (Raynauds?).
Thermal inner gloves and waterproof fleece lind gloves with click heat pads for warming hands up in pocket.

motherinferior · 28/09/2005 13:09

Cha, the woolly insoles aren't that pricey - in fact I could do with some more so we could split the postage? I like them more than thermal ones partly because they don't make your feet sweat (clammily).

There is also a ski shop in Forest Hill (really) where I've bought warm socks in the past.

I got some balck suede Rocket Dog boots with a sheepskin lining and a wedge rubber sole last year in Office - didn't take them off for 4 months! Going back next week to see if they have another colour!

Mojomummy · 28/09/2005 13:30

I used to have the white finger syndome - it's called reynards disease. I read that eating chillis helps ( I think it works by increasing blood flow ?). I got a bit of a tabasco & Encona hot pepper sauce addiction, but it did seem to cure it

In the meantime, highly recommend Hawkshead boots. Just checked their site & they don't have any at the moment -I'm sure they'll have them in the next few weeks. They are waterproof, padded, rubber soles & furry lined & they're not massive either - I wore my to work & on a skiing hols. There are about £30-£50.

Cha · 30/09/2005 12:47

OOOhh, lovely - making my toes feel quite warm just thinking about it. Will have to take a trip into Neal Street to check out the Office and the Natural Shoe store (where I got last years lovely but cold and leaky boots).
What's this MI that you wanna go halves on? Not a pair of socks, surely??? Where is the Forest Hill ski shop in relation to the Horniman (only place I know in Forest Hill).

Furry slippers

doormat · 30/09/2005 12:55

Cha you can get a cinnamon foot cream from Avon which warms up feet.

otto · 30/09/2005 13:02

The Forest Hill ski shop is on Perry Vale, opposite the back entrance to the station - probably about half a mile from the Horniman.

Cha · 01/10/2005 17:44

thanks for that - I will go up there next time I am at the Horniman. God, my feet are cold. I should just get on with it and buy some sheep to put them in.
