Old Hag feet - Flexiltol Heel Balm

codswallop · 25/08/2003 22:19

I have dry skin on my feet and am about to return to my (slightly terrifying) chiropodist and I have been using heel balm.

But so far it is not doing as it says on the tin and my feet are not transformed.

Any experiences?

mine are shocking too, so would be interested to see what happens to yours. woman at scholl tuts at mine when I eventually have them filed down. they crack/bleed especialy in the summer.intensive soaking/filing followed by cocoa butter and socks made a little difference but I'm not dedicated enough

I think thats my prob. Have you tried this gunk? it has 20% urea in it! It supposed to tbe the Db for feet.

I have a crack on the ball of my feet where the skin says " No way IO aint going around that corner"... Really sexy.

not tried it, where do you get it from? can you get it on prescription? if so I could get it free!
i think socks good because being barefoot helps skin dry out even more. my worst bit - heels not ball of foot, but just as attractive. snags on sheets - and dh - in bed.

Have you tried putting the balm (or any really serious moisutiser) on it and then sticking a plaster over it overnight (similar idea to wearing socks, or treating eczema by putting emollient under occlusion)? I get cracks on my hands (my feet are OK) and I find this helps. I use E45 cream.

Yes, socks would help to stop the skin drying out so much. But not very comfortable in this warm weather.

twig, don't be embarrassed, they see much worse. I think they see manky feet as a challenge

I have the worst feet of all mumsnetters but have used Flexitol heel balm. You need to put it on at night then put a plastic bag over your feet then socks over that. It really makes a difference, but I found after a couple of weeks of looking after my feet I get lazy and they very quickly return to normal. Also in summer it's impossible to sleep with plastic bags and socks on ! It's the urea content that makes these foot creams good - if it's less than 20% don't bother. HTH

Body Shop Foot File helps a lot. Also soaking feet then then rubbing with whatever oil you have in the house (olive, veg, sunflower, whatever), wrapping in cling film/plastic bags and then putting socks over the top. Make sure you don't have to chase after a speeding toddler though whilst wearing this particular get-up!

There was an article in one of the tabloids a few weeks ago about the state of celeb feet in strappy sandals (too skinny and veiny, too dry and cracked, toes too spread etc - How Dare They Bare? type of thing) and at the end ISTR it recommended some hideously expensive socks you can wear to bed each night..... Bet the olive oil, cling film and bog standard socks work out cheaper and are just as uncomfortable....

BTW, I am also not dedicated enough to follow through but when I can be bothered to do the above, I find it works!

think i have some cream with urea in it, will check % and look for plastic bags
