It is 5 months since my section however I am still experiencing pains and discomfort. My tummy is still huge as well!!! I had a check-up with the doc 6 weeks ago and they said I was fine. I cannot find any info as to when pains should stop - anyone any hints????

Where are the pains? What sort of pains are they? When do they happen? I think it's still normal to have some discomfort around the scar at 5 months.

I'm afraid the huge tummy thing is just what happens after a baby - I don't think it's related to the section. It takes a while (and some exercise) for things to tighten up again, as much as they ever do.

beansprout · 23/09/2005 16:42

I still have pains from the scar. Sort of sharp twinges. Mine was 11 months ago. Apparently this is quite normal. It's also normal to get pains more on one side than the other. Oh good.

NotQuiteCockney · 23/09/2005 16:44

Mine still gives me twinges, and it's been nearly a year.

I know why it's more on one side than the other - it depends which surgeon was on which side, and who "tugged" harder on the scar. Ugh.

beansprout · 23/09/2005 16:45

Really? Eugh. I thought it was do with the side they made the incision, ie where they went deepest.

All of which reminds me to watch "Bodies" tomorrow!

NotQuiteCockney · 23/09/2005 16:48

My MW said it had to do with the tugging to open it up. Whoever's strongest pulls hardest. And whoever's better at sewing makes a tidier scar.

I find it all a bit creepy. I'm envious of women who are brave enough to watch.

beansprout · 23/09/2005 16:53

Lordy. Why on earth would you want to watch? I saw one on the tv and it looked like the baby was coming out of the mouth of a shark.

NotQuiteCockney · 23/09/2005 16:54

Watching is an option. I think they lowered the screen (a bit) when they were hauling DS2 out, but I don't remember seeing much. And with DS1 I was too out of it.

But yeah, that screen is up just for the mum (and dad). You can watch if you like. Bleargh.

Kelly1978 · 23/09/2005 16:56

I didn't know had a choice to watch. Would have liked to see them coming out.

I had my c-section 4 years ago and still get the odd stabbing / pulling pain (usually when I roll over in bed.) My tummy went down eventually, but that was just post-pregnancy and not post-caesarian. I think it is just being a normal woman and not Victoria Beckham! The scar has faded to almost nothing but I do have a kind of "fold" of skin above the scar and that won't go apparently unless I have a tummy tuck. Far too wimpy for that!!!

biglips · 23/09/2005 17:14

the only time i had a very sharp pain as when im due on and its be throbbing for about 2 days before i come on (had baba 11 months ago)

WigWamBam · 23/09/2005 17:24

I had pain after my c-section for almost 2 years. It went into my groin and leg as well, there was apparently some nerve damage from the incision. I still get twinges in my groin and leg sometimes, and dd is 4 now, but it's only every so often.

Mois · 23/09/2005 19:11

thanks for all your replies - glad to hear an not alone however not so glad to hear it will last a while longer. The huge tummy is a downer though. Does anyone have any magic tips for shifting it when I don't appear to have any tummy muscles????!!! (shock)

OP posts:
biglips · 23/09/2005 20:52

sits up!!

NotQuiteCockney · 23/09/2005 20:55

Crunches, leg lefts, any ab workout.

Tae Bo is good for abs. So is pilates.

gravity · 24/09/2005 08:43

def sit ups. load of them! AND just suck in the tummy and hold whenever you think of it - when walking around shops, doing the dishes, standing in the shower - literally WHENEVER! sounds silly but works. i think weight was easier to shift after nat birth? this time after c section (4 months ago)alot slower
